Gray Matters: November 2014
http://communitylinc.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 24, 2014. An underappreciated partner in the struggle against homelessness. By CEO/Executive Director Laura Gray. We could not have provided the “hand up” that ended homelessness for these parents and their children without funding from McKinney-Vento. I’m grateful to all of the legislators on both sides of the aisle who have voted for funding to help end homelessness. And, I’m hopeful that they will continue to fund efforts to put an end to this insidious problem. Posted by Laura Gray.

By Constance Taylor, Employment Job Coach. As an employment coach, I really try to encourage my participants to believe in themselves again. Often times, I tell them these words, “I see you in your future and you look so much better.” What I am really trying to do is to encourage them to dream. I met a friend who told me about a staffing company w...

Gray Matters: October 2014
http://communitylinc.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 27, 2014. Programs Matter: "Do not hide your light for fear of what others may think of you. Let it shine and be a reflection of what is possible.". By Family Coach Frenchie Pulluaim. Well, finding employment did not come easy, or fast. The couple quickly began to fall behind on bills, which caused to them to max out credit cards, family and friends. Some families do not make it through these type of struggles. They are learning that Pride comes before the fall, that there is nothing wron...
Gray Matters: Children Matter: Defining Success
http://communitylinc.blogspot.com/2015/04/children-matter-defining-success.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. Children Matter: Defining Success. By Children's Program Director Josh Chittum. The emotional rawness of the situation has subsided some. While it’s still sad, I think of the good and the possible good as a result of Eliot being taken from his parents. It’s good and comforting to know that Eliot secured a safe place to live for the time being and he will have the protection of Children’s Division in the months that follow. The possible. This advocacy comprises the foundation of ou...

Life at LINC
http://lifeatlinc.blogspot.com/2010/05/i-sometimes-wonder-what-youth-at.html
Monday, May 17, 2010. I sometimes wonder what the youth at Community LINC think about Community LINC, homelessness, and the world they dwell in. I asked, and I am surprised by the answer. Is what the kids said they wanted most. I was surprised by this answer because I have the stereotypical view of teens: they think they know everything, don’t need advice from adults, and don’t wish to talk to parents. This is how I behaved as a teen, so I figured teens today were not any different.

Each month we evaluate success stories - what caused a family’s homelessness, the changes that were made to end their homelessness and the ultimate successes that followed - all from the parent’s perspective. This month, we decided to shift our focus just a bit to a teen’s perspective. In a recent Teen Life Skills class, they were asked to give their definition of change. Community Matters
Thursday, December 7, 2017. A Note of Thanks from a Graduate. I wanted to write this letter to simply say Thank You! After two years of sleeping on floors, staying house-to-house, moving in different shelters, and spending every bit of money I had on hotel rooms just for some type of peace - I got to wake up today in my own home! And I am beyond thankful. I came into this program with nothing but a bag and was able to leave with so much more. Labels: homelessness; family homelessness; community linc;.
