http://silver-blades.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Musings of an Adult Figure Skater. Friday, April 23, 2010. Hubby then helped me out and changed the loudness of the beginning so that it could be heard in the rink. It is a piano piece that starts out softly which gets totally lost over a rink PA. I still haven’t heard this latest cut and am hoping that it will be fine. Saturday, April 17, 2010. What is interval training you ask? Ah ha Pick a cardio. Sport; cycling, jumping rope, running or, in my case, rowing machine (personal fav. But my breathing take...

Silver Blades: February 2012
http://silver-blades.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Musings of an Adult Figure Skater. Monday, February 6, 2012. I now have confirmation that I do indeed have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I've seen two specialists, one of whom is world famous, and they both confirmed the diagnosis. Bummer. I'm still stuck in the house and occasionally in bed. I use a walker for short distance walking and a wheelchair for anything over 50 feet. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I took lessons as a kid and passed all twelve Basic Skills tests and my preliminary figure test. I wa...

Silver Blades: January 2010
http://silver-blades.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Musings of an Adult Figure Skater. Saturday, January 30, 2010. A Great Skating Day. I have been on the ice twice since my last blog. I have tried spinning. Since I had my left blade moved I wasn't sure how this would go. I have a mixed report. I seem to have my scratch spins back. They are occasionally. Centered and very fast and long. I haven't been able to do a decent camel since the change but this has always been my least consistent. Spins in the correct position. I was SO Happy! If I don't have to w...

Buying an adult figure skating costume (gulp) | Sarah on Ice
https://sarahonice.wordpress.com/2012/12/01/buying-an-adult-figure-skating-costume-gulp
Adult figure skater. Barely. Buying an adult figure skating costume (gulp). Asymp; 12 Comments. With the holiday show on the schedule, I’ve been looking to acquire my first figure skating costume. Eek! Just not gonna work on adult hips, no way. Having never done dance or any sort of performance art, I was totally in over my head on this one, and didn’t really know where to start. As with most things, I turned to the internet. It’s one of the things I’m struggling with in the program — f...With that in mi...

Silver Blades: November 2009
http://silver-blades.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Musings of an Adult Figure Skater. Saturday, November 28, 2009. While I was in Lake Placid for Skate America, I also got in some ice time of my own. I managed to squeeze in a little over three hours of practice but the real bonus was the half hour lesson. I love the coach I see up there. We are so on the same wavelength. We actually trained together as kids growing. And Toe Loop; she fixed my change edge spiral and we worked on the change edge patch figure. Scott Hamilton and Evan Lysacek. He is a cutie!

Jumps & falls of an adult figure skater: Look down, look down, don't look them in the eye
http://janieskate.blogspot.com/2013/03/look-down-look-down-dont-look-them-in.html
Jumps and falls of an adult figure skater. Life on the ice at 25. Saturday, 2 March 2013. Look down, look down, don't look them in the eye. No actually, don't. I am supposed. To look at the audience. I just couldn't resist throwing that line in from Les Mis. So after the jump landing with nice checking arms, I promptly drop my arms and go into thinking mode. Coach now wants me to have default thinking mode with arms up. My brain can't handle so many things at once! 3 March 2013 at 21:59. Got to respond t...

Jumps & falls of an adult figure skater: March 2013
http://janieskate.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Jumps and falls of an adult figure skater. Life on the ice at 25. Friday, 29 March 2013. I've yet to learn the back x-overs to back edge.). Oh my, it is difficult. Coach told me that no matter what, do not flap around as I will lose all of the little speed I have. Naturally, I flap. I can barely get up to three quarters of the circle, it's such a big circle! I don't have a very strong opinion on whether or not figures should still be around. All I know is that if it was. We're very tentatively aiming to ...

Work in progress: Sit spin | Sarah on Ice
https://sarahonice.wordpress.com/2013/11/05/work-in-progress-sit-spin
Adult figure skater. Barely. Work in progress: Sit spin. Asymp; 3 Comments. Sit spins, here we go:. About the captions – the “4 months later” etc means 4 months after the first video clip, not 4 months from the clip immediately preceding. It’s a little confusing. I haven’t figured out the best way to label the time jumps.). And sit spins always FEEL so much lower than they really are, so I’d bust my butt getting as low as I possibly could, only to hear, “Lower! At this point you can see that I’m le...

Starting Over | Silver Blades & Pink Slippers
https://dancingsk8er.wordpress.com/2013/05/26/starting-over
Silver Blades and Pink Slippers. May 26, 2013 at 9:07 pm Posted in freestyle. Today I went to practice during a freestyle session for the first time in over a year (maybe two years? I’ve honestly lost track. I put skating on hold while I pursued my graduate degree. Now that I am finished with school, and I want to get back in shape and back on the ice. As I skated some laps, I actually considered hanging up the skates for good. I’m almost 31, do I really want to put myself through this anymore? So here I...
