Simplicity Follows Complexity: The Goal
http://complextosimple.blogspot.com/2011/06/goal.html
The infrequently chronicled travels of an agile software developer. Monday, June 20, 2011. The only right way to write code is to use TDD! Scrum should only take 5 minutes! You should ALWAYS use DDD to develop your model! NOSQL is the only way! That's the sentiment you can find in a lot of arguments between developers. It's too black and white, too absolute. The issue is that the focus leaves the goal. It artificially limits the solutions you can come up with. Software development practices boil down to?

Simplicity Follows Complexity: April 2009
http://complextosimple.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
The infrequently chronicled travels of an agile software developer. Sunday, April 12, 2009. I prefer using constructor injection with DI. For a few simple reasons. It's self-documenting code. It's explicitly telling clients or maintainers of the component how it's put together. It keeps my components honest. In most cases, excessive constructor arguments is a code smell. I also don't like setter injection for a few simple reasons. It obfuscates how the component is put together. Posted by Nick Swarr.
Simplicity Follows Complexity: From a Java/C# world to Ruby's: Writing modular code
http://complextosimple.blogspot.com/2011/07/from-javac-world-to-rubys-writing.html
The infrequently chronicled travels of an agile software developer. Sunday, July 31, 2011. From a Java/C# world to Ruby's: Writing modular code. For the past handful of months I've been dabbling in Rails. One thing I'm trying to learn is how to modularize code in Ruby. How and where do you draw lines of responsibilities? Where should code live? Should I use a module or should I use a class? Again, where are the lines drawn? What are the right things to do? It's not apparent. Look at models. At first, I l...
Simplicity Follows Complexity: Thoughts on the Test Pyramid
http://complextosimple.blogspot.com/2011/03/thoughts-on-test-pyramid.html
The infrequently chronicled travels of an agile software developer. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Thoughts on the Test Pyramid. Should there be one? How do we deal with test overlap? It's something I've been mulling around and I need to think out loud. So, here's how the original thread went,. Some interesting posts on testing pyramids and automation. I'm a proponent of using this pyramid metaphor for organizing our test strategy. Thoughts? Tests at all layers are valuable and provide a distinctly different ty...

Simplicity Follows Complexity
The infrequently chronicled travels of an agile software developer. Saturday, October 6, 2012. Zoom and center with d3. I've been spending lots of time with Data Driven Documents. One of the first things I needed to do was select a circle and have it "fit to screen" which was essentially zooming and centering the circle. There were a couple gotchas that I had to hammer through before I figured it out. The top left of your viewport is your origin (0,0) and its positive expansion is down and right. We divi...

Making the Complex Simple. Software Development from John Sonmez's Perspective. Back to Basics Series. Getting Up to BAT Series. How to Build Agile Software. April 14, 2013. What Makes Code Readable: Not What You Think. You often hear about how important it is to write readable code. Developers have pretty strong opinions about what makes code more readable.
