Strong publicity photography is vital in complementing and reinforcing brand messages. If a headline or opening sentence fails to seize an editor’s attention, images can come to the rescue. PR photographs can vary broadly. They might range from businesspeople shaking hands to a group of cheering fundraisers, product shots that play with perspective, a choreographed action shot, head shots or images of a specific marketing event. The old line about a picture painting a thousand words is true, to an extent...

Ross Davenport: Crunch time is almost here
http://rossdavenport.blogspot.com/2012/02/crunch-time-is-almost-here.html
A British Swimmer, training hard. Friday, 24 February 2012. Crunch time is almost here. With the Olympic trials now just around the corner, the result of the past seven months of long hard slog, sweat and tears, will soon be known. All the talking will fade and swimming will start to make the noise. A couple of weeks ago I returned home from another training camp, this time in Tenerife. Facilities in Tenerife are some of the best in the world for all sports and it certainly helps having a 12-month summer.

Ross Davenport: The Final Countdown
http://rossdavenport.blogspot.com/2012/07/final-countdown.html
A British Swimmer, training hard. Tuesday, 10 July 2012. There’s less than two weeks to go until the start of the greatest sporting event ever to hit our shores and I am struggling to contain my excitement. When the Olympic torch completes its 8,000 mile relay across the UK and comes to rest in the Olympic Stadium, all the talking will stop and all the action will begin. 16 days of competition will see hearts broken, dreams made and champions born. Eyes on the prize. Most of our time since the trials has...

Ross Davenport: March 2012
http://rossdavenport.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
A British Swimmer, training hard. Friday, 23 March 2012. Team GB qualification the bright spot of mixed fortunes. Qualification week was always set to be a highly emotional, stress-packed time, and so it turned out. Olympic trials are often the hardest competition any athlete will take part in. So much is at stake because failure means redemption isn’t possible for at least another four years. My Olympic trials were filled with mixed emotions. For some reason it just didn’t happen for me. The primary obj...

Ross Davenport: More race practise, hard training and a bike ride plan
http://rossdavenport.blogspot.com/2012/06/last-legs-competing-in-france-final.html
A British Swimmer, training hard. Friday, 15 June 2012. More race practise, hard training and a bike ride plan. We're all set for the 6 week period before the final stages of training and the Olympic Games. Next week I’m racing at the ASAs but I’m not resting or shaving. Both eyes are firmly set on the Olympics now and to rest and shave down would jeopardise my fitness for Olympics. Nothing is getting in the way of that. Over that fortnight we had our British summertime. The sun was out, it was hot a...

Ross Davenport: Happy New Year!
http://rossdavenport.blogspot.com/2012/01/happy-new-year.html
A British Swimmer, training hard. Friday, 20 January 2012. As The Big Year arrived, everything suddenly became much more real. So 2012 is finally here. As soon as big Ben struck 12am and the fireworks began, the London Olympic Games appeared to take a giant step closer. In that second the Olympic games became very, very real! Whilst watching the rockets and colour light up the London skyline for what seemed like an eternity, I was flooded with a sense of extreme pride, excitement and nerves. The little t...

Ross Davenport: Final training phases, racing practice and the saddest losses
http://rossdavenport.blogspot.com/2012/05/final-training-phases-racing-practice.html
A British Swimmer, training hard. Friday, 18 May 2012. Final training phases, racing practice and the saddest losses. After returning from a Florida training camp, we’re now moving into the final phases of training. There’s now just seven weeks of work left before we start a three week taper into the Olympics. A little under seven years ago it was announced that we’d get the Olympics and now we’re down to the last seven weeks of work. Instead of focussing hard on both fitness and speed at the same time, ...

Ross Davenport: December 2011
http://rossdavenport.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
A British Swimmer, training hard. Friday, 23 December 2011. After the whirlwind of last month – taking a surprise trip to Paris and getting engaged – December has been a little calmer. My last blog came from Florida, sitting in 25 degree heat, next to a pool and surrounded by palm trees. Having returned to the UK last week, this month’s blog comes from a slightly less glamorous surrounding. I’m sitting at my kitchen table, heating on full blast, enduring the strong smell of wet dogs! Swimming is a tough ...
