A Sea of Blah. I haven’t been able to write the last few days — the fatigue is pervasive, and it’s hard to concentrate. Most of the time, itching from my various rashes is a bigger problem than pain. My bones ache, but that’s a good thing: the discomfort comes from construction in the marrow. Thank you again to everyone who’s written. Thirty days post-transplant. It’s an important milestone and brings me a few small steps closer to normal life. First, I had my chest port removed. (My last post. Back in June, a couple days after getting diagnosed with amyloidosis and surviving my bleeding escapade, I went back to the hospital for a cardiac MRI. I’d already had an echocardiogram that “suggested abnormalities,” and I’d been told that heart failure is the primary cause of death in amyloidosis. Plenty of reason to worry about what the MRI would show. As I waded through the morning rush hour, a light on the dashboard began to flash. Check Engine. Check Engine. As a cosmic sign it was a little late.
