You and Me Against the World | The Compulsive Copyeditor
https://compulsivecopyeditor.wordpress.com/2015/03/30/you-and-me-against-the-world
March 30, 2015. You and Me Against the World. 8212; amba12 @ 10:53 am. Great song, especially as sung by Freddy Cole. Lousy grammar. But so is this, from a new science article:. Germline alterations are therefore permanent, as opposed to changes made to somatic cells the cells in you and I that are generated after conception and are not passed on to our children. And this, from a wedding invitation:. It’s all about me! ME, ME, ME! Click the sample arrow for a taste. You may want to buy the song! Follow &...

April 24, 2015. Second Usage Find of the Same Day. Filed under: language degenerating. Usage Find of the Day. 8212; amba12 @ 8:48 pm. Is the collapse of Western civilization accelerating? I don’t even know what to call this. We were the first group of kids who grew up with household computers, but still novel enough to elicit confusion and wonder. The only thing I’ve ever seen to rival it was in a very long-ago. He told me something one morning and out the other. Leave a Comment ». Enter your comment here.

Fossil Mixed Metaphors | The Compulsive Copyeditor

May 1, 2014. Sensory qualities of words. 8212; amba12 @ 4:41 pm. Most high-flown abstract words started life as physical, material metaphors, colorful analogies between actions of the body and actions of the mind. (To “deliberate” is to weigh.) The root words for those physical actions still lie buried inside their abstract descendants. Because I feel the roots of words (do I need a root canal? The example I’m looking at right now is “precipitated a quagmire.” You can’t. 16 Comments ». As the verb (separ...

Living In A Golden Age: Pizza wars: Whole Foods
http://livinginagoldenage.blogspot.com/2012/04/pizza-wars-whole-foods.html
Living In A Golden Age. Sunday, April 22, 2012. Pizza wars: Whole Foods. For a pizza sold as "thin crust" the crust provides a remarkable amount of its flavor. It tastes a lot like dough, even when fully cooked. I couldn't taste the sauce or cheese, and the pepperoni flavor was very weak. I don't know what "chemicals" they put in regular pizza, but I miss them. Doesn't taste like dough anymore, or much of anything. I agree with this assessment.I often find many things from Whole Foods kinda bland. In Afr...

Good to hear, Ron! 10:11 PM, November 30, 2013.
El Pollo Real: "Putin: Rhymes With Rasputin"

How has the ‘system’ been working out for you and your family? Thursday, September 12, 2013. Putin: Rhymes With Rasputin". Flashback on the world stage to the moment when Vladimir Putin first appeared to us and William Safire memorably quipped: " Putin: Rhymes with Rasputin. Put your way back machine on to 2000 and reread Safire's NYT article; it's well worth it - from a time when I still read that paper religiously. I picked out a few excerpts:. Was Safire pro-Chechen or just sympathetic? What will Hill...
El Pollo Real: Exceeding Nature
http://acrazychicken.blogspot.com/2014/11/exceeding-nature.html
How has the ‘system’ been working out for you and your family? Saturday, November 15, 2014. The scheme belongs to a recent chemistry paper entitled "Nonmetal Catalyzed Hydrogenation Of Carbonyl Compounds" which I think shows significant advancement in chemistry. For the non-chemist, I'll unpack the title. How about saturated fats? The food industry uses hydrogen and metals like nickel to hydrogenate food stuffs. And then there is the "hydrogenation" of nitrogen to make fertilizer. Other blogs I like.

Living In A Golden Age: Acting "Gay": c. 800

Living In A Golden Age. Thursday, September 22, 2011. Acting "Gay": c. 800. For he went to the baths and had himself closely shaved, polished his skin, cleaned his nails, and had his hair cut very short as if it had been done by a lathe. Then he put on linen undergarments and a very white shirt. From Two Lives of Charlemagne. It got me to thinking:. In 9th century France this made you look like a raging homosexual, in 1950's America it made you look like a respectable businessman. 27 October, 2012 05:32.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Tasty orange and passion fruit flavor. Easy to swallow. Enriched with vitamin B. I don’t really taste the mango. You first get a heavy orange citrus blast of flavor followed by a mild taste of passion fruit. The passion fruit is barely noticeable. The can says that there is also mango flavoring but I barely tasted it. Most importantly, there is no medicine aftertaste found in many energy drinks. I believe that this is my new favorite energy drink. Monday, January 3, 2011.

Compulsive Cook
The woes and triumphs of a compulsive cook. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Bread in the drawer. For a year as a difficult teenager, I lived in the house of my godmother, her husband and their three children. It's a lovely house - a huge Victorian end of terrace monstrosity, painted pink, in the Dublin seaside suburb of Dun Laoghaire. The main stumbling block was that the recipe calls for a tin 5 inches by 8. I don't have anything even close to this in my vast collection of baking tins. Undaunted (or at least ...

Following My Crafty Muse. Books and Magazines to help You Learn to Spin. May 8, 2008 by compulsivecrafter. In my last post, I wrote about some terrific online resources for learning how to spin.
