Sports, food and whatever else can happen while you're standing in line. My passion for sports writing began at the University of Arizona. I covered sports there, including the men's basketball team, for the Arizona Daily Wildcat. I thought for sure my destiny was sports writing at some big newspaper or some fancy magazine. It wasn't. After graduation I spent 2006 covering Major League Baseball as an intern with MLB.com. So yes, I was paid to watch the Padres. Accidentally threw a baseball at my head.

Adventures of a WonderBear. Swimming, rashes, and “Dude! Is that a house? Indeed, there has been lots of swimming in the Mathias household. Jeff and Noah have been going to the pool to get away from the ridiculous heat. Noah had swimming lessons when he was just six months old and to say he hated it is an understatement. We were a little nervous about reintroducing him to the pool, but it turned out the kid loved it! I can't get any chicks with this hat! The house is right on top of the freeway on-ramp.

Thoughts of Youth and Family Minister. November 25, 2013. Water is Thicker Than Blood…. In Luke 9: 57-62, Jesus addressea three would-be followers. Two of the three approach him and say, I will follow you, and Jesus approaches the third. All three have short conversations with Jesus, and in each case we are left wondering whether or not these would-be followers of Jesus actually become true followers? I think Jesus is suggesting that water is thicker than blood. I wonder if we have this imagination?

In that time- just over six months- I’ve switched departments at my job, rejoiced in my cousin’s successful kidney transplant, held my best friend’s first child, and oh yes, one more thing.
