So Many Tables: October 2013

October 19, 2013. In addition to being just plain fun, this "3D felt board" can also provide a way to reinforce the names of colors, shapes, and Christmas images. My granddaughter will be 23 months old when December rolls around. She can play "Decorate the Christmas Tree" to her heart's content. I still have to make more Christmas specific ornaments: stocking, Santa, angel, etc., but the tree is almost ready to go. The radius of the half circle was 35-1/2 inches. The whole thing took 5-1/2 bags of poly f...

May 17, 2012. On May 19, 1884, Ringling Brothers Circus gave its first performance. A few years ago, when my grandchildren were still let's-play-circus age, I decided the four of us would celebrate Circus Day with a special circus dinner and a video ( Dumbo. The tablecloth is a fabric piece from a church bazaar. A jar dipped in yellow paint was used to make the circles. The balloon centerpiece was copied from a picture I saw on the internet. Candles are Christmas pillars atop upside down stemware. The sm...

So Many Tables: Skunk Day june14
http://www.somanytables.com/2015/06/skunk-day-june14.html
June 14, 2015. Yes, you read that correctly. It's National Skunk Day. In honor of the day, I am resurrecting a. Tablescape I did several years ago. As a small child, I collected ceramic skunks. (There's no explaining that, so I'll just move on.). The skunks, along with the shadow box in which they were displayed, disappeared about the time. I turned 12, when my bedroom changed from Little Girl Pink to Teenage Whatever. And for a few minutes, I lost sight of my original task. There was a skunk bank, seen ...

October 4, 2014. The daughter of a close friend is to be married in late November. She's such a sweetie that everyone. Begged to honor her with a shower. My two friends and I won! So we began to plan right away. It's hotter than beejeezers here in Southern California, but we still went with a fall theme. It's October. Even though Fall isn't here, it ought to be. Using this invitation, found on Etsy. For our shower moniker. It was decided that we'd go with the ubiquitous burlap theme. White wine, and water.

So Many Tables: December 2013
http://www.somanytables.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
December 23, 2013. We've set up a couple of Entertain Yourself Areas for our guests on Christmas Eve. First, there's the ubiquitous Photo Op Center. Although there are dozens of free props to download on the internet, I took advantage of Hallmark and Etsy. In addition, I raided my grandchildren's dress-up bin for hats, scarves, and clown noses In the end, we had plenty of props. I found that moving in for a tight shot was the best. Old Mid-century Movies were listed for the seniors in attendance. This wa...

August 12, 2013. We invited the neighbors over for a barbecue a couple of weeks ago and I turned our backyard bar area into a faux diner. After that, the faux diner idea sort of took on a life of its own. Here's a look at the upgrade . . . I ordered two more plates from Replacements.com. Now we can serve six instead of four. Remember the diner placemats along major travel routes during the 50s? Welcome to Zoe's Place. Feel free to take the complimentary map with you as you continue your travels. Yes, I a...
