Coniston 14 | Annual Coniston Race | Coniston Race
The Race is Coniston's largest annual community event and is organised by a small committee from the village. Each year over 20,000 is raised from the Race and this is donated to about 30 local charities and clubs. Last year 5,000 was raised for St. Mary's Hospice, Ulverston. Coniston and Torver Community Land Trust
A Community Interest Company. Company No. 7978653. Coniston is an old mining village and retains many of the characteristics of self-help and strong community spirit of such villages. In 2006 a Housing Needs Survey demonstrated a proven need for 66 affordable homes in the village. This started an energetic community-led campaign to meet this requirement. In 2012 the housing group set up Coniston and Torver Community Land Trust. Further schemes are in progress. Coniston and Torver Community Land Trust 2017.
