Lost in My Mind, Exploring this World — George A Corley
http://www.gacorley.com/blog
The Art of Language Invention: a review. I received an advance copy of David J Peterson’s. The Art of Language Invention. Which after some procrastination I have recently finished. It’s a book I highly recommend both to newbie and advanced conlangers, as well as anyone who might be interested in conlanging. Before I get started with my review, I will point out that William Annis has a great overview of the book on his Tumblr. And Gretchen McColloch of. Livetweeted her reading,. Writing some creative work...

Listed here are links to a couple of personal side projects I have pursued in the past. One is a short story blog that, unfortunately, has only one entry. The other two are foreign language blogs that I used in an attempt to help develop my writing skills in Spanish and Chinese. Maybe someday I can find time to revive them. The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist: Emily Has Moved
http://fantasticaldevices.blogspot.com/2015/06/emily-has-moved.html
The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist. Things of eclectic and geeky interest. Tuesday, 9 June 2015. As those of you who've tried out my semantic recommendation system, Emily, will have noticed, it didn't work. The reason was, I'd used the wrong cloud platform. Google App Engine isn't meant for anything that needs as much computation as Emily does, so I've ported Emily to OpenShift. Let's try this again! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). BBC mole, Cardiff insider— Alan Fridge! Quantum Thinki...

The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist: June 2015
http://fantasticaldevices.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist. Things of eclectic and geeky interest. Wednesday, 17 June 2015. A post on Data Community DC discusses Why You Should Not Build a Recommendation Engine. The main point is that recommendation engines need a lot of data to work properly, and you're unlikely to have that when you start out. Too small to need its own product. I never really got a handle on how well it worked. This brings me to Emily. Links to this post. Tuesday, 9 June 2015. Links to this post.

The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist. Things of eclectic and geeky interest. Tuesday, 21 July 2015. Conlanging and Progressive Rock. Earlier this year, I helped to organise the Sixth Language Creation Conference. Which I did so that I could finally get to meet so that I could finally meet some of the friends I've made online over the past few years. Among these were John Quijada. Who later wrote some very flattering things about me in the Language Creation Tribune. Links to this post. From n...

The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist: NoSQL for Conlangers
http://fantasticaldevices.blogspot.com/2014/06/nosql-for-conlangers.html
The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist. Things of eclectic and geeky interest. Tuesday, 17 June 2014. In his blog, fellow-conlanger Wm Annis writes that the best database format for dictionaries is text. All his points are valid, but at one point he says The standard is SQL. For a good dictionary system, you need the flexibility of a NoSQL database. One popular system, that I've done a lot of work with, is MongoDB. This stores documents in JSON format, so a dictionary entry might look like this.

The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist: Starting a new conlang
http://fantasticaldevices.blogspot.com/2014/07/starting-new-conlang.html
The Fantastical Devices of Pete the Mad Scientist. Things of eclectic and geeky interest. Monday, 21 July 2014. Starting a new conlang. I've been thinking about starting a new conlang project for a while now. I'm planning to do something with a bit of nonconcatenative morphology, not exactly Semitic but with some similar features, and I really want to try my hand at diachronic conlanging. Over the past few days I've put together the phonological development of the first few stages of the language. 160;&#...
