Friday, October 1, 2010. Le Jardin de Joel Robuchon (Hong Kong). Shop 315 and 404, The Landmark,. Central, Hong Kong. Tel: 852 2166 9000. Http:/ www.robuchon.hk/. Update: Robuchon gained its third Michelin star in 2012. We started dinner with a glass each of 1999 Bruno Paillard champagne, which was complex and had a good finish. Opting for the Menu Decouverte, we went for the Sonoma Valley Cable and Telegraph Pinot Noir (forgot which year) to accompany the food (turned out to be quite a good pairing).

Saturday, June 13, 2015. 5 Neil Road, Singapore 088806. Tel: 65 6223 4098. For the evening, we were presented with two fixed menu choices. We opted for the slightly longer Heritage Menu which showcased the popular dishes rather than the Signature Menu which had the chef's most current creations, because this was our first time there and we wanted to try Chef Han's 'famous' dishes. Kaya Butter, Rojak. Laksa (coconut noodles and grilled oyster). Our disappointment brought about by the "Sashimi" dish was sh...

Saturday, April 20, 2013. Sam's Chowder House (Half Moon Bay). 4210 North Cabrillo Highway,. Half Moon Bay, California, USA. Tel: 1 650 712 0245. When we were there, it was still rather nippy outside so we opted for a seat inside (but at the window so we still managed to enjoy the views). Set up as a traditional diner and sports bar, it was very relaxed with enthusiastic and friendly service. Posted by Smiling Lion. Sunday, April 7, 2013. 320 Village Lane, Los Gatos, California, USA. Saturday, July 27, 2013. Placa de les Olles, 8, 08003, Barcelona, Spain. Tel: 34 933 10 79 61 (no reservations except for tables of 4 or more). Located at the heart of the very idyllic and chic El Born district in Barcelona, Cal Pep is a narrow restaurant dominated by a long bar counter, with seatings for bigger groups in the restaurant area at the back. The tapas on offer here was very traditional, and included local favourites like the tomato and olive oil bread and grilled peppers, which were excellent.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Martin Berasategui (San Sebastian). Calle de Loidi No. 5, 20160 Lasarte-Oria, Spain. Tel: 34 943 36 64 71. The restaurant resembled a large bungalow (and it was located in residential area of many large houses) and the dining room was quite simple yet warm and elegant. We were impressed by the sincere and friendly service that night. For dinner, we opted for the Grand Menu with wine pairing, which was supposed to best showcase the more popular dishes of the restaurant. The fi...

To a large extent, our trip to New York in 2012 to eat at Per Se. The salmon cone was a classic French Laundry amuse bouche. Oysters and Pearls" - "Sabayon" of pearl tapioca and Island Creek oysters and white sturgeon caviar. One of the classic French Laundry dishes, this was every bit as amazing as the one we had at Per Se. Somehow the starchy base with the briny oys...

Thousand-year-old quail egg, potage, ginger. This was very good. A very nicely aged quail egg paired well with the thick vegetable soup. Oyster, pork belly, kimchi. Sunday, March 30, 2014. L'Auberge du Vieux Puits Gilles Goujon (Fontjoncouse). 5, Avenue St Victor, 11360, Fontjoncouse, France. Tel: 33 468 44 0737. We were initially seated at the reception area and served some amuse bouche, where they also gave us the menu and wine list. The amuse bouche was good, but I thought it was a bit awkward for us to eat and enjoy it while seated on the sofa with a giant leather-bound wine list on my lap. Where we had our meal the previous day, the waiters here were more uppity.

Saturday, March 23, 2013. 1345 Railroad Avenue, St Helena, California, USA. Tel: 1 707 963 8931. The food as well was less cosmopolitan that its younger sibling's; at Terra the cuisine was essentially American with strong influences of Old Europe. Despite being in the heart of wine country, we were quite disappointed by the wine list as everything seemed just so expensive. In the end we settled for a rather forgettable (but relatively affordable) Napa Pinot. This was the same classic dish that we had com...
