Consider the Daffodil

Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Ever since I re-started blogging here this year, I haven't felt quite at home. Consider the Daffodil was named after an old Deep Thought that I particularly looked, but it didn't say anything about me or my reading habits. So I've decided to move my book blogging to a new site - new site, same ol' content. So come visit me at The Reading Mouse. Monday, August 22, 2011. Review: Ready Player One. Consider the Daffodil: Geek Wisdom

http://considerthedaffodil.blogspot.com/2011/08/geek-wisdom.html

Wednesday, August 3, 2011. When I first heard about Geek Wisdom. Man, was I wrong. There is so much truth in this book. Each page features a quote or two from famous geek texts (ranging from Shakespeare to internet memes, with plenty of television, movies, and novels in among the mix) along with a brief discussion of why this is important to the hordes of geeks out there or what it has to say about how we geeks see our world. Consider the Daffodil: May 2011

http://considerthedaffodil.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 28, 2011. I'm guessing time travel is the new vampire or zombie, because there is a whole spat of new time-defying stories sitting on my bedside table. Case in point: Ruby Red. I've read a few translated books lately, and one thing I can say about Ruby Red is that it didn't sound translated. Translator Anthea Bell did a wonderful job keeping the language flowing, very important for a book aimed at teens. Monday, May 23, 2011. But only a few pages into Page by Paige. Sunday, May 1, 2011.

Consider the Daffodil: July 2011

http://considerthedaffodil.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 26, 2011. I have to admit, I didn't have high hopes for Texas Gothic. By Rosemary Clement-Moore. The description on the back included witches, cowboys, and ghosts. I started flipping through it, though, and immediately recognized it for what it was. It was like home, something comforting from my childhood. Much to worry about, and the main girl (it was always a girl) used a little Nancy Drew sleuthing to figure out what was going on. Is this fine literature? No But that wasn't exactly what ...

Consider the Daffodil: Review: Ready Player One

http://considerthedaffodil.blogspot.com/2011/08/review-ready-player-one.html

Monday, August 22, 2011. Review: Ready Player One. When I first heard about the upcoming Ready Player One. I was excited but hesitant. A story that is based around nostalgia for a certain time period (here, the 1980s) can be tricky. Things can go either very well or very poorly. The story itself is not a new concept: a super-rich guy dies and leaves clues within his creation that could lead the intrepid to his fortune. The Westing Game. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Consider The Cost

Freedom Costs Everything The Reward - PRICELESS! I absolutely love to laugh and make others laugh. So, I’m starting off with a joke by my grandson, who will be turning 8 years old in a few days. Here it is:. Grandson: Papa, why did the chicken cross the road? Me: To get to the other side? Grandson: No, to go to the idiot’s house, of course! Me: Oh, I should have known this. Me: Who’s there? As I laugh at how he “got me” and the humor of this “groaner” joke]. Now, what’s up with the title of my blog?

February 9, 2012 · 3:42 pm. Why you could be a crazy cat lover. Seriously. People may have suspected Biologist Jaroslav Flegr was a nut when he postulated that cats can contribute to psychosis. And we’re not talking crazy cat lady. (OK, maybe we are.). For decades, Flegr studied a tiny organism called Toxoplasma gondii, found in cat feces. What he discovered can literally rewire the circuits of your brain. And he estimates that about one third of the world’s humans are. Tagged as cat feces. Was recently ...

Consider The Day Seized

Monday, 17 June 2013. Dad and I have been working on a zipline for a couple days. Today we finished it! Obviously needed a maiden voyage. Would death follow? Dad, gentleman that he is, let me have first go. It's only about 20 feet in the air. And you have to climb the tree hanging onto the rope, so the bar doesn't escape. I (fortunately) didn't die, and if you want to see the (30 second) video, follow this: http:/ youtu.be/h1C xCiL3mE. Links to this post. Sunday, 16 June 2013. Dusting Off the Blogg.
