Monster Soup Commonly Called Thames Water. The print made a great impression on me, and after seeing it again in a Boston exhibition, I wanted to create my own series of monsters . I made these images by creating drawings with a glue gun, scanning them on a transparency scanner, and reversing the value structure so they appear as a negative. Prints were produced by scanning ink drawings that were done on tissue paper, transferring the images to film, and then exposing them on a photopolymer plate. The result reminds me of slices of brain tissue as well as plant material. I have also explored this theme using a lotus leaf as a stand-in for the brain. (See Monoprints). Family experience with dementia led me to consider the brain and confront a fear of loss of self. Painting through a brain-shaped stencil that lay on top of moist support paper created the large watercolors from the. Series that suggest an axial brain slice.
