Consuming Justice: Just Clothes Part II - "Made in China"
http://consumingjusticeinwaterloo.blogspot.com/2011/04/just-clothes-part-ii-made-somewhere.html
WHY your consumption choices matter, HOW you can help, WHERE to go in Waterloo. Friday, April 29, 2011. Just Clothes Part II - "Made in China". It seems odd to me that we boycott various artists or movies for endorsing vulgarity or sexual immorality but we support companies who do not care about human equality. What's worse? As a consumer, your voice matters! How YOU can help:. Buy clothes from countries where you know workers have rights! I have found that the easiest way to help redeem this problem is ...

Consuming Justice: "Fair" Trade Coffee?
http://consumingjusticeinwaterloo.blogspot.com/2011/05/fair-trade-coffee.html
WHY your consumption choices matter, HOW you can help, WHERE to go in Waterloo. Monday, May 16, 2011. Lawrence Solomon: Fair-trade coffee producers often end up poorer. If it IS true, what does this mean then? Should we buy regular coffee as the "lesser evil"? Continue buying fair trade coffee despite this article? Look for uncertified fair trade coffee? Boycott the coffee business altogether? I know lots of people read this thing. Share your opinion! What's Katie Up To? May 23, 2011 at 9:25 PM. But beyo...
Consuming Justice: Availability vs. Entitlement
http://consumingjusticeinwaterloo.blogspot.com/2011/04/entitlement-vs-access.html
WHY your consumption choices matter, HOW you can help, WHERE to go in Waterloo. Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Availability vs. Entitlement. I read the following this morning, while leafing through my copy of Simply in Season - Recipes that celebrate fresh, local foods in the spirit of More-with-Less. In stories of earlier times, we read of rare delights: the first greens after a long winter. The miracle of an orange. We can almost taste the pleasure of such moments - the exquisite experience of luxury. Just b...
Consuming Justice: God's Economy is not Our Economy
http://consumingjusticeinwaterloo.blogspot.com/2011/05/gods-economy-is-not-our-economy.html
WHY your consumption choices matter, HOW you can help, WHERE to go in Waterloo. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. God's Economy is not Our Economy. I think one of the most exciting aspects of the Bible is its bizarre economic viewpoint. On many levels, it doesn't make sense. Nevertheless, if God is an active God, another world is possible. This chart was adapted from p. 111 of Perry B. Yoder's book, Shalom: the Bible's Word for Salvation, Justice and Peace. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Adventures, Reflections and Less than Glamourous Moments in Already / Not Yet: Serve Anyway
http://gloriabennett.blogspot.com/2011/04/serve-anyway.html
Friday, April 8, 2011. By Dr Kent M. Keith. 1 People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. 2 If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. 3 If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies. 4 The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. 5 Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. 6 The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. May 14, 2011 at 7:27 PM.
Adventures, Reflections and Less than Glamourous Moments in Already / Not Yet: (Seniors in) Social Activism - Informational and Collaborative Session
http://gloriabennett.blogspot.com/2011/04/seniors-in-social-activism.html
Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Seniors in) Social Activism - Informational and Collaborative Session. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. I shuffled in my seat awkwardly. The young woman smirked at me. Is this something you guys would be interested in doing? Well, as far as resources go, we have money." a man said. Then maybe we could sponsor a low-income family! I don't want to donate anything! An angry woman cried out. "I donate to the blind, I give my clothes to the Salvation Army! He went ...
The Harbour: June 2011
http://theharboursblog.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
The thoughts, beliefs and actions of a group of Christians living together and experimenting with calm unity. Wednesday, June 29, 2011. An Experiment with Meetings. What makes conferencing different from a regular meeting is the following:. 1) One by one, everyone gets a chance (and must) talk about how a situation/conflict has personally affected them (emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally). 2) Everyone else respectfully hears out and listens to each person's point of view without interruption.
Adventures, Reflections and Less than Glamourous Moments in Already / Not Yet: A Reflection
http://gloriabennett.blogspot.com/2010/12/reflection.html
Sunday, December 5, 2010. I haven't written on this thing in awhile. I think its time I just plugged down and vomitted some thoughts, regardless of how unorganized they may be inside my head. If you are unaware, I am a founding member of an experimental community house which officially started this September. Currently, there are five women and two men in this house. What are our weaknesses? What is tolerable and what needs to change as soon as possible? December 6, 2010 at 9:42 AM. Hey Gloria - I admire...
The Harbour: August 2011
http://theharboursblog.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
The thoughts, beliefs and actions of a group of Christians living together and experimenting with calm unity. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. This past weekend we hosted a BBQ for all of the neighbours on our street. It was great! We've been meaning to host some sort of neighbourhood event ever since we moved in here, and now that we're leaving in a month, it seemed like the right time. (you know, in case we ruin everything). And, despite any worries we may have had, it went really well! New Canon EOS 60D.
The Harbour: The Actual and the Ideal
http://theharboursblog.blogspot.com/2011/04/actual-and-ideal.html
The thoughts, beliefs and actions of a group of Christians living together and experimenting with calm unity. Thursday, April 21, 2011. The Actual and the Ideal. This is a quote that I brought up during devos last week. I will post it here because I think it is an accurate portrayal of what we are trying to accomplish. There are two things, the actual and the ideal. To be mature is to see the ideal and live in the actual. To fail is to accept the actual and reject the ideal. The Actual and the Ideal.

Therefore, it can and should be re-evaluated at least annually as our visions and purposes change over time. Therefore, we will be deliberate about practicing community by doing the following:. 8226; No sex outside of marriage...

Sunday, February 21, 2010. Report: Baby Skull Jewelry May Be Linked To Violence. Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Ode to the Cool Kids. Anyway, recently a cool kid died in a car accident. I didn't know him, but he was good looking and stylish, which, is quite enough for me to wish to avoid his presence altogether. I don't know what his attitude was, but with a face like that, how could he be anything but "cool"? I DON'T NEED YOU! And so I have been experimenting with learning to love cool people this semest...

Consuming LA | The Los Angeles Food Blog
March 20, 2018. Shibumi is a Japanese word which refers to an aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty. The LA restaurant Shibumi more than lives up to its name. Hidden away behind a signless facade and located on the ground floor of a parking structure in Downtown LA, the dimly lit restaurant has a cool minimalist vibe. Creamy, crunchy perfection. Perfectly seasoned and grilled. Get in my belly now. Cherry leaf-wrapped sweet rice treat. Lotus, Sweet Potato and Young Burdock Chips. Jefferson a...

February 8, 2011. In defense of sandwiches. The way we eat. Duck fat grilled cheese anyone? Thats a lot of honor to give a sandwich. Admittedly I do crave a sandwich once in a while, but typically as part of a larger dining experience; like a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a glass of milk. Still, those days are far and few between, and not enough to say that I am developing a favor for sandwiches. Links to this post. December 17, 2010. Are you a chef?
