Breaking the museum | contested spaces: conflict or exchange?
https://contestforexchange.wordpress.com/2011/04/05/breaking-the-museum
Contested spaces: conflict or exchange? A look at heritage preservation and urbanisation. Petra was originally my precedent of how traditional livelihoods of the local Bedouin tribes could co-exist with the influx of tourism and other urban development. These were made largely based on my own observations as a tourist (in 2006) as well as books on Petra and the Bedouins. However, since I started to delve deeper into the finer details, the reality seems to reflect something else. 05/04/2011 / 12:16 PM.
Revisiting Petra | contested spaces: conflict or exchange?
https://contestforexchange.wordpress.com/2011/04/12/revisiting-petra
Contested spaces: conflict or exchange? A look at heritage preservation and urbanisation. Again, using the same method, I diagrammed the issues affecting Petra. This time, I came up with three possible projects:. 2 Setting up a time-table to prioritise different user occupation in Petra during different times of the year. This will help retain the local community character while allowing tourism to take place without being a burden to the overall sustainability of the site. While I am very interested in ...

Contested spaces: conflict or exchange? A look at heritage preservation and urbanisation. Revisiting Bugis District | contested spaces: conflict or exchange?
https://contestforexchange.wordpress.com/2011/04/12/revisiting-bugis-district
Contested spaces: conflict or exchange? A look at heritage preservation and urbanisation. I spent the last week re-visiting old test projects, trying to do some “design” rather than just analysis. Starting with Bugis and Kampong Glam. I diagrammed out all the key issues that were affecting the site, using techniques we picked up working with precedents a few weeks back. The result:. First, tackling Kampong Glam:. Next, looking at the new site:. 12/04/2011 / 11:27 AM. Jump to comment form. Who am I design...

if Singapore was a unified district… | urbanl00p
https://urbanl00p.wordpress.com/2011/03/31/if-singapore-was-a-unified-district
Just another WordPress.com site. If Singapore was a unified district…. In response to the rapid and unrestrained development of the city following the fall of the Berlin wall. Their projects try to open up a space of communication and negotiation in which relations can be made and conflicts played out. The bubble nestles itself into whatever is already there, its transparency allowing dialogue to occur between inside and outside; everything blurs together, but remains visible nonetheless. It creates ...
Peripheral Vision: Place is always being born
http://temporalspatial.blogspot.com/2011/03/place-is-always-being-born.html
Liminality on the urban fringe. Place is always being born. I finally found a text that really captures the intention of my project. Place is always being born. A landfill or an abandoned nuclear test site may appear to be at the ecological end of the line, but both are filled with latent possibilities for sustainability and transcendent function. Rozelle, L. RESURVEYING DELILLO'S "WHITE SPACE ON MAP": LIMINALITY AND COMMUNITAS IN UNDERWORLD. Studies in the Novel. Winter2010, Vol. 42 Issue 4, p443-452.
Peripheral Vision: Mt Macedon bushfire memorial

Liminality on the urban fringe. Mt Macedon bushfire memorial. The motorist as a captive audience. They are in a state akin to meditation and I there is a great opportunity to tap in to that receptiveness, the need for markers (other than McDonalds roadhouses) and the desire for points of conversational interest. Peripheral Vision: Requestioned
http://temporalspatial.blogspot.com/2011/03/requestioned.html
Liminality on the urban fringe. The working title remains the same as this blog. The question is now really two:. What is the relationship between the city and its rural periphery in the post-modern metropolis? How do people reconfigure the city by their movement? I'm interested it the scale of movement, the type of movement and the qualities of the journey in relation to the places linked. What is achieved by the movement? Can this understanding be used to build resilience into a changing city? This blo...

Peripheral Vision: Abstractions - drawing
http://temporalspatial.blogspot.com/2011/03/abstractions-drawing.html
Liminality on the urban fringe. The city imagined as a grid field. Our memories smudge marks through the field. The smudging layers and solidifies as paths and the field drops away. Peripheral Vision: Where

Liminality on the urban fringe. A little Google mapping reveals that the sites that I had in mind all have a very similar distance and/or travel time from the centre of Melbourne. Camp Follie 03 – Amplification Basin | sonic fields

Camp Follie 03 – Amplification Basin. Posted by sonic fields. On March 23, 2011 · Leave a Comment. This follie was designed to amplify the sounds of the beach, and to minimise the impact, or effectively cancel out, other sounds coming from the area. Whilst completing my earlier camp follies I realised that there was one specific position that was being played with each time. I feel this is especially important in the urban context, where we have so many sounds, cues and noises competing for attention.
