Recently, I read the book that won the 2014 National Book Award, Redeployment , by Phil Klay, a collection of stories about Marines in Iraq, and their physical and mental suffering. It made me wonder what these men and women thought they were accomplishing insofar as the USA was concerned, i.e. ,did they believe they were protecting the homeland?
