We continue with the subject of Abraham Lincoln, and how many of his personal traits made him an exemplary leader. Lincoln was famous for his ability to tell stories. He was also famous for his oratorical ability in court, and later in politics. My grandfather, Samuel Poses, was also one of the great storytellers of all time.

Conversations With Sam: April 2014

http://www.conversations-with-sam.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 21, 2014. Leadership - Compassion Pays Off. I have already discussed how Abraham Lincoln successfully used intelligent compassion and magnanimity in his leadership. My grandfather, Samuel Poses, used to explain that almost all human beings have egos and, when their egos are hurt, they often make irrational decisions. Additionally, most people have trouble looking at the larger picture and react based upon their feelings in the moment. The business was large and successful and employed numer...

Tuesday, January 21, 2014. Sam the Joy Spreader, or Going Twelve for Twelve With the Holiday Spirit. As a child, I was lucky enough to spend most of the holidays with my grandparents. Living in New York, they had a great many people providing services for them. Most New Yorkers who can afford to do so tip these people at the holidays. However, most do not write personal thank-you notes. Both of my grandparents made it a point to write handwritten thank-you notes to the people who provided services to them.

Conversations With Sam: Leadership Secrets

http://www.conversations-with-sam.com/2014/03/leadership-secrets.html

Tuesday, March 11, 2014. I have always been intrigued with leadership. At an early age my grandfather, Sam Poses, explained to me how important leadership was in a family, a business, a country, etc. He stated over and over again that most people were poor leaders, and that their company, family and country survived in spite of them, not because of them. He even discussed my leadership responsibilities with me as the oldest of four children. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The wisest person I ever kn...

Conversations With Sam: Negotiating With A Bully – Part II

http://www.conversations-with-sam.com/2013/02/negotiating-with-bully-part-ii.html

Monday, February 4, 2013. Negotiating With A Bully – Part II. My grandfather, Sam, like me, preferred win-win situations. However, many times, it was impossible to have win-win negotiations because of prevailing ethos. There has to be a winner and a loser. I watched my grandfather negotiate all the time. One day, I came to his office during spring break to go to lunch with him at Long Champs. I was lucky enough to sit in on three conversations. Afterwards, I discussed these conversations with him. He def...

Conversations With Sam: The Top Ten Things That Samuel Poses Taught Me About Being A Great Business Lawyer And A Great Human Being

http://www.conversations-with-sam.com/2013/06/the-top-ten-things-that-samuel-poses.html

Thursday, June 20, 2013. The Top Ten Things That Samuel Poses Taught Me About Being A Great Business Lawyer And A Great Human Being. As many of you are familiar from my various posts, I learned a lot from my grandfather Samuel Poses. This week we are. As I contemplate his life and what he taught me, both by dialogue and especially example, I am struck by how timeless his wisdom is. I want to make it clear that I learned a lot of things from Sam Poses, but have not always implemented them perfectly. Stay ...

Is the biggest problem between men and women that women are constantly thinking about the future, while men are constantly thinking in the present? Man, women think about the PAST TOO MUCH. They may not ever say it or bring it up (until they get mad enough), but that’s the biggest problem lol. Yes, yes and yes!

The ramblings of a young lady learning to fly. Monday, 3 November 2014. 41 Budapest - City Sparkles. Jeez – this is gonna be a hard one to write, considering how delayed this post is – but looking at the pictures, we didn’t do much, so there is not that much to remember ;). Well, we did actually do a lot – especially eat. 8211; that’s for sure. And shop till we (quite literally) dropped – or fell ill – which is exactly what happened to me. Never shopped so much they I got sick before. haha. We then took ...

Conversations With Nature – Communicating with nature as a way to deepen your presence and yoga practice

Communicating with nature as a way to deepen your presence and yoga practice. Communicating with nature as a way to deepen your presence and practice. Sutra 1.1 Atha Yoganushasanam. Atha means now. The first word now may imply that there was something that came before, an experience that has ‘set the stage’. It may be (but not limited to) instruction on the practice, spontaneous awareness, or deep desire/seeking. I created this course for two reasons:.
