My daughter talks. I write. My heart is full…Happy birthday Leila. Seven years ago, I learned about love. Love that was complete. Love that was unconditional, unyielding, unmatched. I was completely humbled…because prior to this experience of love, I thought I knew. Never before did I know what it was to pray for another person more than I did myself. My daughter talks. I write. 8220;Mommy, I don’t feel pretty…”. These words stopped me in my tracks. I could hear my heartbeat loudly in my ears. My hands were sweaty. Inside I’m screaming “What? Wait, no. Not yet. I thought I had more time! More time to teach my 7 year old to love her body, herself, her uniqueness without reservation. More time to buffer her from the worlds messages about Beauty. More time to strengthen her sense of self. More time to help her find her voice in a room full of people.
