Back to the beginning | X-Large Triathlete
https://triathlonvirgin.wordpress.com/2010/04/19/back-to-the-beginning
Slowly thundering towards the finish line. Back to the beginning. A year before I was at the same starting line (ok, they moved the starting line to different street, but just indulge me anyways). I had never been in a race before that day and I had no idea what to expect. I had just begun my journey towards becoming a triathlete and I hadn’t a clue as to what lay ahead of me. I mean, I’m not a runner. Just look at me! So I ran that 5k. And I while I was out of breath at the end and I had to walk a f...

Finished! | X-Large Triathlete
https://triathlonvirgin.wordpress.com/2009/09/13/finished
Slowly thundering towards the finish line. A full post will come later but I finished my first ever Olympic distance triathlon! Despite having a lot of pain in my knees I still managed to come in at about 2 hours and 55 minutes (unofficial). I should have the official time later tonight. For now, it’s off to take a shower and compete in the fourth event of a triathlon, drinking beer! Thank you to everyone for all you love and support, especially to all those who came out to see me. I am very grateful.

Fired up. Ready to go. | X-Large Triathlete
https://triathlonvirgin.wordpress.com/2009/09/17/fired-up-ready-to-go
Slowly thundering towards the finish line. Fired up. Ready to go. Those words kept going through my head as I drove up I395 at 5:30am on Sunday morning. Fired up. Ready to go. I was trying not to think about the next 3 hours that lay ahead of me and I just kept repeating that in my head. “Brian, you’ve trained for 8 months for this day. You’re fired up. You’re ready to go.”. Ready to go.”. Just watch the speech, it’s easier than me trying to explain it. 2 Water bottles full of gatorade on the bike. Then ...

A Great Harvest - Iowa Girl Eats
http://iowagirleats.com/2009/10/01/a-great-harvest
October 1, 2009. I feel SO much better today I went to bed at 9:00 last night (yes, that G in IGE occasionally stands for Grandma) and awoke feeling like a million bucks. Thanks for your well wishes! Yesterday afternoon during lunch, Ben and I paid a visit to our local Great Harvest Bread Co. Of us, no? I had never been and wasn’t sure what to expect, so you can imagine how delighted I was to find racks of freshly baked, uniquely flavored breads. And chewy fruit bars. I chose to sample the Cranberry.

On Running Form.. | X-Large Triathlete
https://triathlonvirgin.wordpress.com/2010/03/24/on-running-form-2
Slowly thundering towards the finish line. In an earlier post I talked a bit about running form and how mine is pretty much awful. Ok, not pretty much… it is awful. But the good news is there’s plenty of room to improve. Lately I’ve been using the drills in the video below to help me become a more biomechanically efficient runner and reduce my chance of injury. I think it’s a good watch:. Laquo; Changing it up. Off-roading – Lake Accoutink. Date : March 24, 2010. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Distance: 1&#...

It’s a new playlist for 2010 | X-Large Triathlete
https://triathlonvirgin.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/its-a-new-playlist-for-2010
Slowly thundering towards the finish line. It’s a new playlist for 2010. Hmm anyways, here’s the music I’ve been rocking out to recently on my 10k tempo runs:. 1 Three Little Birds – Bob Marley. This song helps me clear my head, get positive and get into the mood to run). 2 Let’s Get It Started – Blackeyed Peas. When this song comes on, it’s easy for me to get pumped up for the miles that lay ahead). 3 Young Forever – Jay-Z ft. Mr Hudson. 4 Let’s See How Far We’ve Come – Matchbox 20. Oh wow, the run̵...
