Cooking in Provence

Sunday, 28 December 2008. We're in the pre-alpes here, at about 350 m altitude. Not sure if this is enough to make a difference to cooking sponges, or it's the cooker, or the flour, the water, or what . but I'm still searching for a basic fool-proof cake recipe. So I'm going to experiment with the cakes made with yoghurt that are a staple part of the chalet-ski offering. Here's a basic recipe (found on an internet search) and a couple of variations. 1 pot vegetable oil. 1 sachet (7g) baking powder. With ...

Cooking in Provence: September 2007

http://cookinginprovence.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, 2 September 2007. Dinner for the neighbours. It's the beginning of september, so the thoughts are turning to autumn. But today's been warm. And I've actually had some time to spend some time cooking, so an easy supper has turned into:. 2 chilled soups (pea with mint (nigella lawson forever summer) and leek with lemon grass (waitrose cooking witht the seasons); served with a warm twice cooked cheese souffle (variation of a delia smith summer cooking theme). And vanilla fromage frais.

Cooking in Provence: August 2007

http://cookinginprovence.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html

Friday, 31 August 2007. Tomato, garlic and pepper coulis. The first year of a proper vegetable plot - even if it hasn't had the care and attention I would have liked to give it - nevertheless gives you ingredients to use to create sauces and resources for the freezer. This was dead easy: from the garden I picked cherry tomoatoes, garlic, chili peppers (just 1 or 2) and yellow peppers. Lemon and garlic chicken. I separate out chicken pieces into smaller parts; bung them in an oven roasting dish (no pre-fr...

Chateau Colombier: June 2009

http://chateaucolombier.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

The comings and goings at Le Colombier. See the main website at www.chateaucolombier.com. Friday, 5 June 2009. Ouch - the cost of a motorised pool cover. The pool cover is great - it's safe, it keeps the pool clean, and - most importantly - the greenhouse effect helps heat the water up, and stops it cooling down at night. So - it's got to be motorised. But you could almost buy a small car for the cost. Do you think I can start to charge visitors a pool cover motor service charge? Follow me on Twitter.

Chateau Colombier: March 2009

The comings and goings at Le Colombier. See the main website at www.chateaucolombier.com. Sunday, 15 March 2009. First swim of the season. Pool at 15 degrees. So with a wetsuit, and upbeat music, I officially opened the swimming season. Managed 15 minutes. Can't be bad. Wednesday, 11 March 2009. Somehow I'm not sure that you'll be back everyweek. However, start a vegetable patch to grow your own potates - and the rest - and you'll soon discover muscles you didn't know you had. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Chateau Colombier: Alberto Contador en route to victory

The comings and goings at Le Colombier. See the main website at www.chateaucolombier.com. Friday, 31 July 2009. Alberto Contador en route to victory. It was Tour de France fever last Saturday as the Tour cycled past us en route to Mont Ventoux. As well as many shots of headless riders, and tarmac (why do cyclists go so fast? I guess it was a sprint stage) guess who I managed to snap cycling past Chateau Colombier? Labels: Tour de France cycling. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow me on Twitter.

Sometimes you can land yourself in it following on from conversations with friends. Random exchanges and chats with Anne (during her recent wet and cold trip wine tasting to the Languedoc) means that I have set myself a challenge for food and wine weekends here at Chateau Colombier. The comings and goings at Le Colombier. See the main website at www.chateaucolombier.com. Tuesday, 27 November 2007. One advantage of having a large home with an equally large dining room and dining table is that it lends itself perfectly to jigsaws! Not having to move them away when you want to eat - and lose crucial pieces in the process - there's always another room with a table that can serve just as well! Do they sort by colour? Or by topic area? Friday, 23 November 2007. Another stupendous meal out...
