cooking in the garden unit

This is blog was created when my roommates and I were college students. My friends and I love to cook and create and recognize that balancing this with our school work load (and now our work loads!) can be challenging... but however daunting, it is surely not impossible! We hope that you enjoy our recipes, and perhaps you will share some of your favorite recipes with us.

cooking in the garden unit: Introducing: Big Muddy Urban Farm!

http://cookinginthegardenunit.blogspot.com/2012/01/introducing-big-muddy-urban-farm.html

Tuesday, January 24. Introducing: Big Muddy Urban Farm! It seems I have been a busy bee lately; hardly a moment to sit down. And, what might you ask, is keeping me on my toes these days? Well, I have quite the news! I have been busy working with several of my new and dear friends here in Omaha, to start a CSA (community supported agriculture) called Big Muddy Urban Farm. And others just food lovers. Myself, I have grown only on a very small scale, in my parents' backyard and at the community garden p...

Tuesday, December 6. But first a recap of my fall, in photos:. Much time was spent, with the most beautiful people I know. Cooking with dear friends! And free food, saved from the trash! And now, Omaha. A wonderful place, filled with new wonderful people! And finally, a chance to prepare food for myself again. Today, my project, inspired by my Milwaukee friends (who constantly inspire me! And some milk that was about to go sour: homemade yogurt! To make your own homemade yogurt. All you need is:. 2 After...

cooking in the garden unit: October 2011

http://cookinginthegardenunit.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 30. Falling in and out of love. My dear friend Alex, a wonderful musician and inspiring individual filled with wanderlust, sang a song once that has been stuck in my head since. It was a cover of the song "Cold and Blind" by Possessed by Paul James (who lately, I am in love with), and he sang it with the equally inspiring Caley Conway. Who has a voice like none other! An old, but favorite image of mine: hello, Fall! Ready to ride, with a windsock made by Vanessa. Let the revamp begin.

Thursday, April 28. The end of the semester (and my college career! Is quickly approaching, and amidst all the chaos of term papers, group projects and final exams, there are a few things that keep me happy as a clam; one of these things is Jill, Annie and my craft stand that we will have at the East Side Green Market. cooking in the garden unit: May 2011

http://cookinginthegardenunit.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 14. About one year ago this time, I discovered my interest in foraging. As most things go, this too has come full circle; and again, I foraged violets for jam! Also, since last year, we have shifted our dependence on packaged foods, to a homemade lifestyle. Last year when we made violet jam, we used packaged pectin. This year, we are trying something new: using our home-canned pectin from last fall! 8220;Do you know how to make the jelly test? Euell Gibbons, Stalking the Wild Asparagus.

Big Muddy Urban Farm. Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Inching closer and closer. Well we pushed our goal "Find Land" back from January 15th to January 31st, but things are still moving along. We have a few more plots to look into before making our final decisions. I think we all have good feelings about things coming together. It would be nice to have more time, but doesn't it always feel that way before the growing season starts? Almost all our seeds are ordered! Which I've been told is a "seed saving bibl...

Cooking In The Kitchen’s International Recipes. International Cuisine – a collection of health recipes. April 25, 2013. I’ve been searching for over three years for black lentils and I was never able to find them. Finally, today I found them in a Bulk Barn store when I was actually searching for mung beans. So I searched online and found this recipe for a black lentil salad and made it tonight. Here’s the recipe I found at http:/ foodwishes.blogspot.ca. From Food Wishes by Chef John. 1 tbsp olive oil.
