news from france: A new year in the countryside
http://cookinglizzyinfrance.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-year-in-countryside.html
Sunday, 29 January 2012. A new year in the countryside. This year we decided against coming to France to celebrate the New Year. Instead we are here for a couple of weeks at the end of January. Rob has over the years read most of Casanova's diaries. He was pleased to read recently that his letters had been bought by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and that they were part of an exhibition about Casanova being staged at the BnF. http:/ www.bnf.fr/fr/acc/x.accueil.html. Wednesday, 25 July 2012. Poly Tunnel - Before. Back in France after six weeks in the UK to find the garden over run with weeds. Here like most of northern Europe the early summer has been very disappointing with lots of rain and far too low temperatures. The farmers have not been able to make hay and the ground has become very wet. I have sown the beetroot seeds three times and I have only found 4 plants hidden amongst the weeds. Poly tunnel - After. The raspberries ripened while we were away so I was on...

Thursday, 13 October 2011. Where has the time gone. I don't know where the last few weeks have gone. We have been busy with meetings and trips out. I have done some dress making. We spent a day in Colchester visiting the new Firstsite Art Gallery. Rob had a day in London. I visited the Budhist centre in Norwich with a group from the WI, and yesterday I went to a conference in London of which much more below. We then broke off into groups where we gathered around flip charts and threw ideas at each other&...

Monday, 22 August 2011. Maastricht, Strépy-Thieu, Saint Fraimbault and more. As it pours with rain outside and thunder can be heard all around - it is time to catch up with my blog. It has been one of those unsettled summers, rain one day - hot dry sunshine another. It has just been so unpredictable it has been impossible to plan ahead. The thunderstorm seems to be getting nearer which will probably mean the internet connection will go down and possibly also the electricity. Silkie chicken drinking water.

news from france: Winter hits hard
http://cookinglizzyinfrance.blogspot.com/2012/02/winter-hits-hard.html
Friday, 3 February 2012. Cows in the corner of the field when it was snowing on Monday morning. After a very mild December and January winter hit the Orne hard on Monday morning. We woke to find a thick layer of pristine snow and snow still falling from the sky. The sky was thick with heavy grey snow clouds which continued to drop the white stuff all through the day. Sleet and snow had been forecast but more snow fell than the Méteo had predicted. Cold crisp day in the countryside. This morning it was ev...

Monday, 23 May 2011. Rob with school children. Yet another busy week behind us. Tuesday we popped in to the Médiatheque to check on things there and found a small group of children in the exhibition space. These four children where sitting on the floor drawing. Three were making copies of the drawings and another little girl was drawing one of the 'ouvertures' an image of a door frame. They were really very good. Busy copying a 'master piece'. Covered Spring at the Chapelle de St Antoine. We had been to ...
