Our year of family travel and education…. Posts Tagged With: earthquake. Baking for Nepal: Real-Life Learning. May 7, 2015. As we chatted at the dinner table the other night about the devastating earthquake in Nepal, I challenged our girls to do something to help. We talked about the possibilities, and suggested they try to organize something with classmates. The youngest one asked how you spell Nepal, and wrote it in her agenda. So, what has my daughter learned in school this week? Math, geography, lang...

So, we know about homeschooling, and we have extended that to roadschooling, but we’ve got a new one this year – stormschooling. Definition: the act of trying to supplement your children’s education while you are buried under 12 feet of snow. My clever response, “Place value is every day for the rest of your life,” does not seem to provide the motivational boost I require. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

Our year of family travel and education…. I am a mom enjoying a year off with my husband and three daughters, ages 13, 11, and 9. We have sold up and taken off. This blog chronicles our journey - the good, the bad, and the ugly! November 17, 2015. You know, I try my best to actively encourage my girls to see themselves as strong and independent – equal to boys in every way. We talk about being smart, working hard, being kind, and standing up for yourself. I thought there would be more emphasis on women&#...

Sunday, 26 October 2008. Orange Cupcakes (approx. 12 servings). This recipe is mine and i did not copy or adapted from others recipes. Muffin cup pans, preferably non-stick. If non-stick ones aren't readily available, aluminium or stainless steel will do, provided they're smeared with butter and dusted with flour. The ones I used were 7 cm wide and 2.5 cm tall. Electrical egg-beater. A whisk will do in a pinch. 60 grams of margarine. 135 grams of sugar. 200 grams of self-rising flour. Add a sachet of sug...

But in the end, I’ll echo Jerry Cantrell’s sentiments from the Jar of Flies. Album No excuses…. Typically, gn...
