A change in the soil composition from just organic planting soil to a mixture of equal parts of organic soil, perlite and coir fiber and the addition of a small fountain and some native plants that attracted a lot more bees to the area. As I noted earlier, keeping our chickens safe was our number one priority but making it as easy as possible for us was the second priority. After much research we decided that the enclosure for the chickens would be easily accessible, not difficult to maintain and keep clean, large enough to be able to walk in without bending and roomy enough so the chickens would not feel caged.
