Cook Travelogue 2007-8-9: March 2013

http://cooktravelogue2007-8.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 29, 2013. The Great Smokey Mountain National Park. As usual, I have hiked the trails nearest the best fishing streams and took way too many pictures of the same places I have photographed in the past. It's kind of like walking on the beach. I tell myself not to look down because I already have way to many shells, but somehow I end up with pockets full anyway. As you can see from the snow covered ground, it was too cold to fish that day. Some of the daffodils in bloom along the road. On our ...

Cook Travelogue 2007-8-9: January 2013

http://cooktravelogue2007-8.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 31, 2013. Leaving Charleston, the plan was to travel directly west across Georgia. The weather, however, turned cold and the warmer places to the south looked more inviting. The Florida panhandle leads to Texas eventually and the temperatures looked more inviting. Tree burls, lots of them. Lots of pictures of burls for James' benefit. Hope he is drooling over how many there were here. We named this the "rotary". The fishing pier was entertaining one of the evenings we spent there. A...

Cook Travelogue 2007-8-9: Divide Montana on the Big Hole River

http://cooktravelogue2007-8.blogspot.com/2015/05/divide-montana-on-big-hole-river.html

Sunday, May 3, 2015. Divide Montana on the Big Hole River. From April 26 through May 3 we were camped at a Bureau of Land Management campsite at Divide Bridge, on the Big Hole River. Divide is 28 miles west of Butte, Montana. The area all along the Big Hole and the Wise River has abundant river access points and most have great campsites for as little as $8. per night. Adjacent to the campground were several short hikes that I took advantage of while Marlin fished to his hearts content. Most of the p...

Cook Travelogue 2007-8-9: April 2014

http://cooktravelogue2007-8.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 24, 2014. The Smoky Mountains with the Baldwins and Burwells. One last stop on our way out of Texas was at Caddo Lake State Park. This was just north of Marshall Texas, across the State line from Shreveport, Louisiana. Looking more like Louisiana than Texas, this lake and marsh was originally formed from storm damage that blocked a stream. We only stopped one night but it looks like the area is worth another look at some time. On the porch of their cabin overlooking the Little River.

Cook Travelogue 2007-8-9: Yellowstone National Park

http://cooktravelogue2007-8.blogspot.com/2015/04/yellowstone-national-park.html

Friday, April 24, 2015. Since the fish were not biting in the Yellowstone River this week, we opted to give them a break and visit Yellowstone National Park for the day. The park is only 80 miles south from Livingstone, Montana, where we were staying, so before moving further west for more fishing, we went sightseeing. How could we pass it up when we were so close to the park. As we pulled into the Visitors Center, a small herd of Buffalo wandered through the parking lot. Great start for wild-life viewing.

The Burgess Family: August 2013

http://burgess5.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

We enjoyed a wonderful visit with Irene. Here John and Irene play scrabble. (guess who won? Not telling, but it wasn't John. Lizzie, aka Cinderella, asked Great Aunt Irene to sit on her lap. And then Cinderella had to go on lunch break. Aunt Irene got a 'taste' of family night supper. Not a quiet relaxing meal, but the food was good .and local. The G-kids all wanted to sit as closely together as possible. And buttering the corn was the biggest and most important and challenging and delicious work of all.
