Bean cakes. Yes. Beans. I have bought a lovely book by Tori Haschka. I bought it because I saw photos on her Instagram feed of Raspberry, White Bean and Rose Cake, and Chocolate, Black Bean, and Cherry Cake. I was hooked, there and then. CAKE MADE OF BEANS. I bought the book! Lowering your carb intake isn’t always easy. If you love cake, then it’s tricky, but you can do it. It just so happens that these bean cakes make it even easier. Raspberry, White Bean and Rose. 3 x medium eggs. 3 tbs ground almonds.

Pastry, Baking Blind and a Nice Big Tart. I’m not a pastry maker. More of an eater, for sure, but making it and deploying it seems to be one of life’s mental blocks. Discovering you can make it in a food processor made the Making easier, but the deployment? I’m still pretty cack-handed. This is never going to be me. However, I have finally succeeded in making pastry that’s edible, not reminiscent of dwarf bread, and crisply short. Thank you, Jamie Oliver, for this recipe. 75g (3oz) golden caster sugar.

My instruction to my lovely dentist was “Knock me the hell out, and I’m all up for the op.”. Monday came, they did indeed knock me the hell out, rough me up, stitch me back together and send me home. Monday, May 27, 2013. Blueberry waffle Baked Alaska. I was raring to go after the Baked Alaska challenge. So I decided whatever Kavey's next challenge was, I would do it. When I saw it was wafers, waffles, cones, cups, biscuits. And so on, I thought I could put my stroopwaffels idea into action. A baked Alaska of stroopwaffel, caramel ice cream and meringue. How could that not be good? But when I read closely, I realised Kavey wanted the waffles to be homemade. Spoilsport. Waffle on the griddle pan.

Leftovers Live To Feed Another Day. I’m not one to throw much away, unless forced to by mould (and then not always) or circumstance, so when I have not quite one serving of a really good dish, I want to make it into something equally as satisfying, and maybe have enough to freeze some. I’d made a Lamb, Leek and Chickpea stew. And wanted to eke out the last bit of it. There was a good just over half portion left, so I bulked it out with more vegetables, and lots of fresh, green herbs. 2 tbs tomato puree.
