The purpose of this program is to provide educators with an authentic research experience in astronomy using data housed at NASA’s Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC) at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California. The main program components involve multiple trips (for which NITARP pays) and a commitment from the teachers to educate others about their experiences, both of which are conducted over a minimum of 18 months to 2 years. The specific program components are:. Assoc...

After the first year. Can anyone teaching anywhere apply? Any US-based educator can apply. (This is NOT just for Southern California teachers! Do you have to teach high school to apply? Convince us that you will leverage your experience in an interesting and innovative way. And we’ll consider your application! Are you a teacher of K-6th grade students? I have an idea for a project, can you just find me a mentor (and money)? In general, no. All the data we use, all the archives we use, are free to access&...

History | NITARP - NASA/IPAC Teacher Archive Research Program
http://nitarp.ipac.caltech.edu/page/nitarp_history
NITARP, the NASA/IPAC Teacher Archive Research Program, is a mechanism for getting authentic research experiences ultimately into classrooms across the United States. We partner scientists with (primarily) high school teachers, do a research project, and the teachers incorporate the experience into their classroom. Who is doing this? Who is running it? The Spitzer Science Center (SSC). And the NASA Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC). We select educators from a nation-wide selection process.
