Mar 7, 2012. March 6, 2012 Big Mama and her mate get it on! Last June, a violent storm snapped the top off a nearby spruce tree. City workers levelled it off, resulting in an excellent perch. Yesterday, at 0730h, Gary spotted Big Mama and Eggbert mating on the perch! Immediately afterward, she resumed nest-building, while her mate headed for the hydro field to do a little hunting. Sunday, June 14, 2015. American Bitterns fighting in Alonquin Park. June 2015. A thrill of a lifetime was watching these two american bitterns fighting in the marsh. Thanks to the great spotting by Sarrah the pair fought right in front of us. Prior to this I had seen 3 bitterns only. This is soooooo cool. Look at head and feet. One of the bitterns in flight. Sunday, July 20, 2014. Barn Swallow being fed by adult July 20 2014. Today I stopped by the pond to see if the waxwings were still there. Luckily they were and so were the baby swallows. Barn Swallow are endangered. When feeding the young the adult never stops or stands on the branch. She is constantly looking for food and feeds while in flight. A sure sign that food is on the way. Feb 15, 2012. Big Mama enjoying food from Male Feb 15 2012. Skip and I enjoyed a visit to the Wexford Hawk nest. We witnessed both male and female in nest, female calling to male, male bringing in the food and Big Mama eating most of it in a big swallow. Big Mama was sitting pretty while Skip and I talked to Gary and Diane and enjoyed a coffee watching her. Gary told us that they were both working on the nest today. Great day at the nest. But then I had to go to work. Sigh. Our love is here to stay.

Sep 6, 2012. Another successful year at the nest - 3 young. Wexford Red-tailed hawks gave neighbours thrills flying from tree to tree. Sitting on top of roofs and some great antic. I have lots of photos and will try to post them soon. Big Mama sitting in a bird bath on the front yard of a house. Big Mama and juv male having a talk in the tree. Sunday, December 14, 2014. Dark and Light morph Rough-legged Hawk Dec 2014. Such a thrill to see this dark morph roughie. Stopped him first on the pole on the side of a road. He quickly flew into the bushes. So amazing. Make sure you enlarge this shot to see the hawk. Landing and again check out the colouring on this hawk. Not to be outdone by the other hawk this light morph rough-legged hawk is stunning as well. Snowy Owls in Ontario Dec 2014. Chris and I saw this beauty when working the other day.

Monday, November 17, 2014. Northern Red-tailed Hawk with very dark markings Nov 2014 Toronto. In Toronto yesterday I saw a very dark Northern Red-tailed hawk. It was a beautiful colour of rufus and dark belly band. Also noticed it had yellow eyes. Did not stay very long but extremely nice sighting. You can see the very rufus tail as well.
