Sports and Community Centre. Recreational Activities in Copmanthorpe. Copmanthorpe is a detached suburb of York, with 1800 homes and 4,500 residents, so it shouldn't come as surprise that there are plenty of groups and facilities dedicated to our leisure time activities. The Recreation Centre came into being in the 1970's. The two pubs, The Women's Institute and the Youth Club all predate it, while the Library and The Annexe Coffee Shop. Our railway station was closed in the late '60s when Copmanthorpe actually was a village with around 800 residents. If they knew that within a decade Copmanthorpe would have swollen to four times the size then may be things would have been different. History of the church. Children & Young People. Holiday Club & Kanga-Roos. Cameo is normally held at 2.00pm on the first Saturday of alternate months (even months) with some 25-30 attending. Afternoon tea is provided free of charge, together with entertainment. The main idea is to encourage people to meet each together and have a good time and develop friendships, especially for people not otherwise connected to the church. The church is a community asset and it is a privilege to open it up this way.
