You can talk about commas here without fear of scorn or looks of confusion. It could be funny. If it weren't so true. (But it is still funny.). Read this brief piece. Posted by the four of us. It feels so, jerky, because you process, some information, and, then you wait, for more, information, to arrive. Very nice your blog. Discount designer wedding dresses. Discount flower girl...

You can talk about commas here without fear of scorn or looks of confusion. Wikipedia as a source. The American Journalism Review. Being used by people in the newspaper industry. My response is that Wikipedia should never be used as a source in a an article for an news medium. That being said, I do believe that Wikipedia is a useful tool to find some basic information about subjects you may not be too familiar with. I even have linked to Wikipedia topics from this blog and my other blog. Super-duper fun ...

You can talk about commas here without fear of scorn or looks of confusion. Wikipedia as a source, take two. The newspaper at which I work had an interview with Jimmy Wales. The founder of Wikipedia. One part of this question-and-answer interview, however, was edited for space. This part had to do with using Wikipedia. As a reference. Here is the question and answer:. What are your thoughts on whether researchers should cite Wikipedia. Pages in their papers? I know that this is talking. Of course it shou...
Copy-Editing Corner: Beating a dead horse
http://copyeditingcorner.blogspot.com/2007/02/superfluous-redundancies.html
You can talk about commas here without fear of scorn or looks of confusion. Beating a dead horse. There are times when I see writers (and this means in all of the written material I read, and not just at newspapers) who use a word and then follow it up with a sentence or clause that defines the word. One example is autopsy. The definition is to perform a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. I would be rich, however, if I had a nickel for every time I saw this sentence:.

Weak Speak: Queen's English #2
http://weakspeak.blogspot.com/2009/03/queens-english-2.html
An instance of poor communication, characterised by laziness rather than ignorance. The term encompasses ambiguity, redundancy, inaccurate pronunciation and misspellings. 22 March, 2009. Another enlightening extract from The Queen's English. Henry Alford, the author, was clearly an amateur(ish) philologist and fellow linguaphile. I'm sure he would have made an interesting blogger. And speaks with proper severity of Walker, who, in his "Pronouncing Dictionary," has set down " evle. What was once " battail.

From the BBC website, in relation to tonight's Watchdog programme. A company that offers remedies for male sexual health problems says they offer "private and sympathetic" consultations. Newspaper design history: Before we went crazy with layouts...
http://newspaperhistory.blogspot.com/2004/07/before-we-went-crazy-with-layouts_04.html
Sunday, July 04, 2004. Before we went crazy with layouts. This is the broadsheet version of the Daily Telegraph, August 1, 1927. The look is very clean compared with post-World War II newspapers; there is a very clear headline style and even though heads bump everywhere, I had no trouble navigating:. Note: these are all bad photocopies; I'll replace them with better, readable versions when I get the CD copies from the library. Here is what Harold Evans had to say about Aussie newspapers in the 1960s:.
Newspaper design history: Scanning the paper

Tuesday, July 13, 2004. I haven't had time yet to go hunting for one of Larry Lamb's "picture-free zone" front pages from 1982, but did find this weathered copy of an inside page which is still a good example of the layout style during his reign as editor. I also got an advance copy of the July 15, 1964, liftout which will be published Thursday and have scanned a couple of pages:. And this is the leader page from the first edition:.
