Scattered Apples: Art from Grandma's House
http://scatteredapples.blogspot.com/2015/08/art-from-grandmas-house.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Art from Grandma's House. Norman Rockwell, Girl at Mirror. A print of this painting is in the back hallway of my grandparents' basement. It hangs on the dark wooden paneling between what used to be Uncle B's room and the study. I associate the movie star Jane Russell with this painting, perhaps partially because my sister and I watched old movies like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. In this painting, since he received a lot of criticism for doing so. John Hafen, Girl with the Hollyhocks.

Scattered Apples: "After the Bath" by Paul Peel
http://scatteredapples.blogspot.com/2015/08/after-bath-by-paul-peel.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. After the Bath" by Paul Peel. When I was growing up, I remember that we had a print of Paul Peel's After the Bath. In our home for some time. I remember seeing it last when we were living in California; I'm not sure if my mom kept the print when we moved to Ohio. I remember looking at this print often when I was a girl, being intrigued and a little dismayed that the little girl in the picture was sitting on a fancy rug with her bare bottom! Scattered Apples: 2015 Road Trip: Glacier National Park Hikes
http://scatteredapples.blogspot.com/2015/08/2015-road-trip-glacier-national-park.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. 2015 Road Trip: Glacier National Park Hikes. We got to go on two hikes in Glacier National Park. They were quite unique and distinctive from each other. I found these hikes by looking at the site "Best Easy Hikes in Glacier National Park.". I knew that we needed to do hikes that Sam would do (especially if we were going to hike more than one trail in the same day). The first hike that we did was the Rocky Point Nature Trail. With half of my siblings. Which is just above the Vi...

And some other historic sites. We tried to go to the USS Constitution first, but found that it was closed on that particular day of the week. So we followed the Freedom Trail to the Bunker Hill Memorial at ate lunch there. And the garden eels. That night we ate dinner at Durgin-Park. We went to the Museum of Fine Arts (which is just ...

Thursday, August 13, 2015. 2015 Mini Road Trip: Enchanted Forest and Portland. Sam and Josh's daughter T waiting in the ferry terminal before we boarded the boat. These two became fast friends, really within minutes. One morning they were talking about something that they both liked, and T commented on their similarities by saing, "I can't believe it! And we're not even cousins! Outside The Witch's gingerbread house (the story of Hansel and Gretel). Sam and T riding down the slide of the Old Woman's shoe.

Scattered Apples: January 2015
http://scatteredapples.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 26, 2015. Our Snuggle Bug is seven months old! For anything. If we are able to get any food inside, she usually spits all of it out. But we are trying to bring down her little wall each day. Once she gets teeth, I may try doing Baby Led Weaning instead, if I don't ever have success with strained foods. Sam is still her favorite person in the world. Watching her first episode of Baby Einstein on YouTube. I love how the roundness of her tummy is perceptible here. Sunday, January 25, 2015.

Scattered Apples: 2015 Road Trip: Utah Hikes
http://scatteredapples.blogspot.com/2015/08/2015-road-trip-utah-hikes.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. 2015 Road Trip: Utah Hikes. We went on two different hikes with the B family while we were staying in Midway. The first one that we visited was Cascade Springs. There were three different loops which went around the springs, and I think the total length of the trails is probably about a mile long. For the most part, the trail was quite level, with only some minor changes in elevation. That seven million gallons of water feed into the springs each day! We forgot to pack Lucy's ...

Scattered Apples: December 2014
http://scatteredapples.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 27, 2014. We had a nice Christmas morning with V and my in laws. This was the first year that we had Christmas in our own home, so we tried to do things that could potentially turn into traditions. We intended on just looking at our stockings before breakfast, but we ended up opening presents too, since my father-in-law had to go to work. For breakfast J made ninety-minute cinnamon rolls. With some really amazing icing. Lucy with Gram on Christmas morning! Christmas breakfast with our ...

Scattered Apples: February 2015

Friday, February 27, 2015. More Paintings of Women Reading. John Lavery, Girl in a Red Dress Reading by a Swimming Pool. I have found some more paintings that I like. I was particularly drawn to this one by Lavery, due to the orange and blue color combinations. I really like when complementary colors are used in tandem, since the colors visually reinforce each other and appear at their finest. Albert Edelfelt, Woman and Parasol. Seymour Joseph Guy, Summer Issue. Monday, February 23, 2015. Sam's interest ...

Scattered Apples: May 2015
http://scatteredapples.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Our Lucy Loo is eleven months old! Earlier last month Lucy learned to wield her gooey cookie like a paintbrush on the wall. She really likes puppets (despite what you see at the beginning of this video. She is reaching for a teddy bear here. I took this photo today. She also likes to open and shut drawers and cupboard doors. Last weekend she worked frantically to dump out a huge bin of Legos while we were out at RB ( see video. Although it sounds more like "Ah-ah! She can't move he...
