SERIAL MATRICULATION

Sunday, September 10, 2006. Something I forgot to mention about India was the presence of cows, which can be seen just about anywhere, from lounging. In the middle of a busy road in Goa to eating grass on the sidewalk. In central Mumbai, the country’s most metropolitan city. People feed the cows and touch them for good luck as they walk by, and drive carefully around them as they mosey along the medians and shoulders of the roads. Tony almost got bludgeoned. Which can be described as an open-air factory ...

SERIAL MATRICULATION: Nov 17, 2005

http://corbinski.blogspot.com/2005_11_17_archive.html

Thursday, November 17, 2005. I'm stuck inside studying tonight while the rest of Paris goes ballistic. It's the third Thursday of November, which means it's time for the French to celebrate what I guess is their version of Thanksgiving, called Beaujolais Nouveau time. Inviting him to Paris, because we tend to act like a couple of real geniuses. When we get together. Posted by corbinski at 11:20 PM. UPDATE: Photos on Flickr. NEW: MOUNT FUJI PHOTOS. SERIAL MATRICULATION: Final Entry (until Tokyo...)

http://corbinski.blogspot.com/2005/12/final-entry-until-tokyo.html

Sunday, December 18, 2005. Final Entry (until Tokyo.). I was forced to say No, Belgium is a country! Was also nearby, along with Janneke Pis. Mannekin’s counterpart, and a statue of Charles-Everard de T’Serclaes. The next Monday when class started back up (a boring IT/e-Business class taught by the dean of our school), I finally made it to the Tennessee bar with my trumpet and got to play with the in-house band. Bright and early this morning (ouch! It’s been a lot of fun writing this blog, and I’m really...

SERIAL MATRICULATION: Globetrotting

http://corbinski.blogspot.com/2006/08/globetrotting.html

Sunday, August 13, 2006. After finishing school in Tokyo and traveling through China, Thailand and India, I’m taking my first opportunity to sit in front of a computer and write for more than a few minutes. Sarah and I have been extremely busy ever since she arrived in Tokyo on July 20th. We were greeted by our tour guide for the next few days, a crazy Chinese guy named Rainy. The next day, we all took a bus trip with Rainy to Yuyuan. An ancient temple garden. A Chinese version of Cirque du Soleil. T...

SERIAL MATRICULATION: Sensory Overload

http://corbinski.blogspot.com/2006/07/sensory-overload.html

Thursday, July 13, 2006. I finally accomplished my aimless wandering mission last week I spent 14 hours straight walking around the city on Saturday, which allowed me to take in most of the big neighborhoods in Tokyo, but I still have lots more to see. Here's a map of Tokyo. If you'd like to keep track - the green square in the middle is Akasaka, my neighborhood. I shot out of bed at around 5:30 on Saturday and headed straight out to Asakusa in the northeast corner of town to see Sensoji Kannon. And the ...

SERIAL MATRICULATION: Oct 3, 2005

http://corbinski.blogspot.com/2005_10_03_archive.html

Monday, October 03, 2005. So for the past couple of weeks, a group of my classmates and I have been eating at a state-subsidized student cafeteria almost every day for lunch. We’ve coined the food Deliciously Mediocre, and constantly try to pretend that we actually know what we’re ordering when we point at the stuff behind the sneeze guard. Upon taking the first bite, I knew exactly what kind of situation I’d put myself into: I was chewing on a big mouthful of pig intestines in a lovely, salty pork gravy.

Corbin Simpson ~ Most awesome, dude!

Most awesome, dude! Writing compilers is hard. I don't think that anybody disputes this. However, I've grown frustrated with the lack of compiler performance and robustness in the Monte toolchain. Monte will have a developer preview release in a few weeks and I need to get some stuff concerning compilers out of my head and onto the page. Monte, the Mess. Performance is behind CPython by a serious but not insurmountable margin. This is unacceptable. One of the goals of Monte is to, by virtue of be...Unfor...
