Sunday, December 24, 2006. A note from the super on Christmas eve. If this car is here in the morning it will be towed! Posted by Mish @ 3:52 PM. Sunday, December 17, 2006. Is having a six-word memoir contest. Pat and I read about it on the Freakonomics. As the site points out, this "could be the title of your autobiography, or maybe your epitaph.". Hemingway summed himself up with these six words:. For sale: baby shoes, never used.". I guess that means he was born an old man? Life is a work in progress.

steel magnolia: June 2006

Thursday, June 29, 2006. Saturday we're going to Butter. A posh manhattan restaurant that transforms into a swanky club at night. I don't particularly care about running into celebreties and all that, but if it's good enough for Paris, Diddy and LiLo, it's good enough for me. I hope the weather doesn't interfere with inevitable good times. Before I leave in about.4 or 5 hours, if anyone wants any New York City swag. And happy 4th of July. Posted by Mish @ 12:38 PM. Monday, June 26, 2006. I apologize in a...

steel magnolia: November 2006

Sunday, November 26, 2006. Leave it to good friends and family to always tell it like it is. Apparently, I've put on "a few extra" lately. Not 20 pounds, just a few. Not enough to send me running to the gym or to give up my beloved cheeseburger and high-sodium diet. But enough that some of my clothes no longer fit. 1) I'm not a teenager anymore. 2) I QUIT SMOKING! It's just not a part of my life any more and I don't want it to ever be again. The fact that I was able to quit was a sign that things are goi...

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde. Saturday, September 23, 2006. The immediacy of desire. And then I left class and went to the Cord office, checked my email and immediately wanted to help all my writers ensure they wrote their best articles this week - that Tones and I put out a damn fine News section. And as I lie in bed in those semi-conscious moments before sleep, my mind races through all the people I wish I saw more of, the amazing friends I ha...

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde. Monday, January 15, 2007. California blog series, part VI: Travel philosophy. As per my promise, here is the sixth and final part in this mammoth series on my August trip to California, just in time for me to leave the province again - this time for a week in. Why do most people display a distinct aversion to travelling alone? Was one of my trip highlights. Note: see part I for more detail]. And I’m glad we had this...

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde. Friday, December 22, 2006. California blog series, part I: San Francisco. Well, here goes. The photos are still in process, but there are so many of them anyway that I'll probably just do a Prilstar. Anyway, our trip began in San Francisco, so that seems like a reasonable place to start recounting it. We arrived on the 22nd (of August, that is) and left on an 11 pm bus departing the city on the 24th, an eight-ho...

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde. Saturday, November 11, 2006. Musicians and politicians: part one. Grohl, just a decade behind. I shall definitely have to check out his side project. A tremendous novel by the insanely-skilled Charles Cross. Anyway, yes - does anyone know of a performer they think could rival Grohl for his stage presence, setting aside your thoughts about the Foo's music? And what makes a good performer, for that matter? An artist h...

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde. Saturday, December 23, 2006. California blog series, part V: Alcatraz. Erin staring down one of the cell blocks of North America's most infamous penitentiary. This is about the only attraction I’ve said nothing about and yet it was also my favourite (edging out the SD Zoo, swimming in the Pacific, my random. But I’m not sure why it was fabulous! Anyway, I think for me,. If not, why are people drawn to the criminal?
