Cork city wildlife: December 2012

http://corkwildlife.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Vorkstaartmeeuw / Sabine's gull. Leon van der Noll. When I got there, I soon found the gull off the pier in the town, quite willing to do some flybys. Unfortunately the light was less then ideal. In fact glare from the sun and the grey of a cloudy sky had banded together to make it near impossible. With some grey and silhouetted pics under my belt I decided to wander and wait for the light to get better. It didn’t! I may yet return if the bird sticks around after Christmas.

Cork city wildlife: May 2013

http://corkwildlife.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 25, 2013. Leon van der Noll. In Ireland, the orange tip butterfly is the most colourful of the pieridae (white) butterflies in that the males have bright orange tips to their wings and both sexes have a quite distinctive marbled green pattern on their underwings. It is a widespread species, occurring in every county. Female orange tip. They usually stay close to foodplants whilst the males wander further. Orange tips are one of the smaller white species in Ireland. Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Cork city wildlife: March 2013

http://corkwildlife.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Birds springing to life. Leon van der Noll. Little magpies. There was five of them fighting on the ground. Starlings in a field, showing the yellow bill colour that they develop for the breeding season. Always nice to see the various colours hidden in the starlings plumage. A female chaffinch which decided to pose for the camera. Long tailed tit. Frustrating bird to photograph as it sits still for only a few seconds. Some day I'll actually get a good shot of one! A few weeks ba...
