Cornerstone Counseling: April 2011

http://cornerstone-counseling.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Welcome to the Cornerstone Counseling blog! Monday, April 11, 2011. One of the things I hear very often is parents telling me how their children are kind of a mixed bag when it comes to personality and behavior. Parents are often confused by this as they worry about what their children are becoming. Of course, they want to see the helpful, kind, giving part of them be the default behavior in their children, but worry that the negative part will choke out the positive. Here are some suggestions:. 4) Label...

Cornerstone Counseling: People Who Aren't Like Me

http://cornerstone-counseling.blogspot.com/2011/03/people-who-arent-like-me.html

Welcome to the Cornerstone Counseling blog! Monday, March 28, 2011. People Who Aren't Like Me. We often are in relationships with people who are different from us. This is true in our family relationships or relationships at work or with friends and neighbors. That can be a source of both frustration and growth. If we see ourselves or our way as "right" and the other person or their way as "wrong," then we miss out on a great opportunity to benefit from what they bring to the table. That's the good news!

Cornerstone Counseling: October 2010

http://cornerstone-counseling.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Welcome to the Cornerstone Counseling blog! Monday, October 25, 2010. Parenting is a mixed bag! It is one of the most important and rewarding jobs we'll ever do in our lives, but it is sometimes stressful and full of concerns. Consistency is also important in teaching your children values and priorities. Examine what your priorities are. What are they? Decide what the priorities are, and then every parenting decision you make needs to fit with that. What does this decision teach my child about? Remember ...

Cornerstone Counseling: September 2010

http://cornerstone-counseling.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Welcome to the Cornerstone Counseling blog! Monday, September 27, 2010. Hard times have hit us big time! People have lost retirements, houses, jobs, and careers. Investments have plummeted and, depending on who you listen to, there is no end in sight. While many of us will agree that "money isn't everything" and that "you can't take it with you," we would probably agree also that these kinds of financial hits put stress on our lives in other areas. 3) Keep busy. If you are out of work, make looking f...

Tell Me a Story Now: February 2009

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Thursday, February 26, 2009. As you have probably realized by now, if you've been following my blog, Osborne Neighborhood Church was a big part of my life as a kid. Osborne was a great church to grow up in. It was comprised of many young families with kids about the same age. Also many seasoned Christian saints who had been missionaries or in other types of ministry. We were surrounded by lots of people who invested time and effort to minister to all of the children and y...We had wo...

Tell Me a Story Now: Mom

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009/06/mom.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Monday, June 8, 2009. My mom is hard to describe. She was different things to different people. My sisters and I always joke that we had "different mothers." I suppose that would be true in any family. Each one has his/her own unique relationship with another, and sees the other in a way uniquely his/hers. She was creative as well. She always made our halloween costumes. No store bought costumes for us! Like I said, she was creative! She had a wonderful sense of humor. That is so...

Tell Me a Story Now: Grandpa Thatcher

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009/05/grandpa-thatcher.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Friday, May 15, 2009. Okay, so previous posts have been about my mother's parents/steparent. Now we turn to my dad's side. I don't think he was a very happy man. He was nice enough to us kids and to my parents, but just seemed withdrawn and unhappy. He wasn't particularly nurturing in raising them. He was a stern disciplinarian, and sometimes abusive from what I understand. I don't think I ever saw Bepaw cry either. May 28, 2009 at 2:34 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Tell Me a Story Now: Simplicity

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009/07/simplicity.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Monday, July 27, 2009. Sometimes when I watch kids today and all the electronic toys they have, I often wonder what they would do if they had none of that. When I was growing up, we had great imaginations, and played a lot of "pretend" play. We would put on "talent" shows, and pretend we had amazing costumes, fashioned out of blades of grass (it was "pretend" after all! Usually the talent was singing (something we knew a lot about) or tap dancing (something we knew NOTHING about)!

Tell Me a Story Now: Grandma Thatcher

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009/05/grandma-thatcher.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Friday, May 29, 2009. There isn't much to say about my dad's mom, but she deserves a place in this story of our family. I'll do my best. She died when my dad was just a little guy (4 years old or so) and so obviously I never knew her. My dad had very few memories of her, if any. After my dad was born, my Aunt Betty came along soon after (maybe a year) and then my Uncle Floyd after that. She had three children in about four years. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). How does this work?

Tell Me a Story Now: March 2009

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Monday, March 30, 2009. Arlene - My First Best Friend. Arlene was my first best friend. We became best friends on the day we met, I suppose. We played together and never had a quarrel as far as I can remember. We weren't in the same class after Kindergarten, but in Kindergarten we had a splendid time! Me: Do you like cheese? Me: You're a dirty Japanese. My mom, rightfully so, was horrified! That was my first lesson in prejudice, and one I never forgot. Sunday, March 29, 2009. When I ...

Tell Me a Story Now: January 2009

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Monday, January 26, 2009. The Trauma of Pants. Terra Bella School, because it was a temporary school (see my previous post), had a dirt playground. You can only imagine how that was when the wind would kick up and dirt flew everywhere. It drove the teachers nuts, I am sure, because their classrooms were coated with a layer of fine dust. But that's what they did. Not sure there is logic there, but that is what they said. Could things be any worse than that? Well, yes, they could!

Tell Me a Story Now: Grandma Phyllis Gideon

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2009/05/grandma-phyllis-gideon.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Friday, May 8, 2009. Grandma Phyllis (we just called her "Grandma," but I am using her name to differentiate from the other grandma in an earlier post) was a genuinely wonderful human being. She married my grandpa long before I was born. I think they married when my mom was about ten years old or something. She was fun too! I remember her and Grandpa laughing a lot as they told their stories- and there were always stories to tell. I remember that they used to drive this little two se...

Tell Me a Story Now: November 2008

http://tellmeastorynow.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Tell Me a Story Now. Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Thanksgiving when I was little was very much a family affair. So Thanksgiving was a huge deal. There was six in our family, six in my Aunt Helen’s family, Uncle Charles, Grandma, “Aunt” Theda’s family, “Uncle” Junior, “Nana and Grandpa” Sutton and some others I can’t remember. I think that made about 25 – 30 of us most years. Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. I’m sure there was more, but that is all I can remember. I remember once getting sick on Thanksgiving&#46...

What would have become of me had I not believed that I would see the Lord's goodness in the land of the LIVING. Wait, hope for and EXPECT. The Lord. Be strong and of good courage and may your heart (Ned) be sturdy and enduring.Yes, Wait For and Hope For and Expect the Lord.". Thursday, September 10, 2009.
