http://positronchicago.blogspot.com/2015/08/weird-wonderful-my-real-children.html
Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Clubs of Chicagoland. Saturday, August 1, 2015. Weird and Wonderful: My Real Children. We had a small group but a lovely discussion of Jo Walton. S "My Real Children" (2014) at City Lit. S Weird and Wonderful Book Club last week. Walton's novel is a kind of double-alternate history with deep reflections on family and ageing: Patricia, our protagonist, lived two very different lives, and is remembering both of them as she falls into dementia in a nursing facility. One coul...

http://positronchicago.blogspot.com/2015/08/classic-sci-fi-woman-on-edge-of-time.html
Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Clubs of Chicagoland. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Classic Sci-Fi: Woman on the Edge of Time. The era of the Mad River Grille meetings of the Classic Sci-Fi Meetup. Appears to have passed- another private event forced us to relocate again, this time just a building or two over to Vaughan's Pub. And we'll be trying out a new (hopefully good, long-lasting location) next time. Still, a lovely patio on a Chicago summer, and a nice discussion of Marge Piercy. Other than some scienc...

PositronChicago.com: Chicago Nerds: Hyperion
http://positronchicago.blogspot.com/2015/07/chicago-nerds-hyperion.html
Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Clubs of Chicagoland. Wednesday, July 22, 2015. After many nominations and near-selections, Dan Simmons. Hugo-winning "Hyperion" (1989) finally made it to the top of the Chicago Nerds. I found Hyperion a delight to re-read, as did many others at group; I think we were about evenly split between first-time readers and re-readers. It's one of those books that is a real pleasure to share and talk about. Possible spoilers below! The Priest's Tale: "The Man Who Cried God".

PositronChicago.com: Classic Sci-Fi: The Time Machine
http://positronchicago.blogspot.com/2015/07/classic-sci-fi-time-machine.html
Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Clubs of Chicagoland. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Classic Sci-Fi: The Time Machine. For July's convocation of the Classic Sci-Fi Meetup. We went about as classic as one can get in the genre: H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine", first published in 1895. Wells, along with Jules Verne, is widely credited with essentially beginning the genre we call science fiction, and works such as "The Time Machine" are now cultural touchstones, frequently referenced and re-adapted. By the way yo...
