When things get too big for a microblog, i post them here. Newer posts →. Svalbard: no bubbles or bears detected. July 22, 2012. Svalbard airport. No bears (armoured or otherwise) in sight. The only things that anyone* ever wants to know about Svalbard. Are: did you see armoured bears, and did you see any methane bubbling up form the clathrates? Well, I’m sad to report that on first look, we detected neither. OK, so maybe not. Of it dissolves, or if some gas can escape to the air. July 19, 2012. The aim ...

When things get too big for a microblog, i post them here. How the Earth’s atmosphere shows its face. March 5, 2014. This is an article I wrote for the European Geosciences Union’s newsletter, GeoQ. Temperature of the atmosphere. The temperature of the Earth is much like the temperature of a person: it is a symptom of everything else that is going on in that person’s body. It may seem like a basic property of the atmosphere, but it is a product of many other aspects of the Earth system, including lan...

Get Behind the Mule: Rock'n'roll...
http://getbehindthemule.blogspot.com/2008/06/rocknroll.html
Get Behind the Mule. Friday, June 06, 2008. Today I descended back into the mire where the unwashed masses loiter outside KFC. My ccontract has not been renewed. Not quite terminated, perhaps, but kneecapped. So it's either lots of time for blogging until the internet connection gets cut off, followed by scrounging for change for a warming brew at Vernon's Tea Rooms.OR.job hunting. All of which means it is the dregs of the school jobs, or something else altogether. Posted by Jim @ 8:09 PM.

http://getbehindthemule.blogspot.com/2007/12/adoptive-darwinism.html
Get Behind the Mule. Friday, December 07, 2007. Louise from Northern Ireland calls Stephen Nolan on five live to talk about this overcrowded planet. I've been thinking about adopting. Would I love that child as much as my own flesh and blood? Posted by Jim @ 11:26 PM. The daily grind from the Herts/Beds borderlands. London, United Kingdom. View my complete profile. Get Behind the Mule: Wedding belles
http://getbehindthemule.blogspot.com/2008/05/wedding-belles.html
Get Behind the Mule. Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Friday was Ben and Kathryn's wedding in St. Newlyn, and a beautiful affair it was too. Lovely to see the Byfield clan, Ed, Sheila and Steve, Sarah and Tania. Thanks to all for a lovely day! We went to Taunton Vale point to point on the way home, and Sam was converted instantly from animal rights extremist to fully fledged turf lover. Posted by Jim @ 7:42 PM. Get Behind the Mule: July 2005
http://getbehindthemule.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Get Behind the Mule. Wednesday, July 20, 2005. I'm coming home to stay. Today The Venice adventure is over. It has been fun. I will blog on anyway I guess. Posted by Jim @ 1:22 PM. Monday, July 11, 2005. September the 11th is a sad anniversary for residents of Venice and the lagoon. The significant event was not the famous attack on New York in 2001, however. Instead, the tornado. Of 1970, which left 37 dead, many after a boat was lifted into the air. On a day when Florida and Alabama. As for stoicism, t...

Get Behind the Mule: Aristos
http://getbehindthemule.blogspot.com/2008/01/aristos.html
Get Behind the Mule. Wednesday, January 16, 2008. First, why is Neil 'Toppler' Kinnock's son head of the British Council in Russia, please. Must be talent. Second, why does the Milliband boy think he is well placed to assert [paraphrase] 'all the activities of the British council in Russia are completely legal.' Is he now a fontum iuridicae. Well, I suppose he probably would be. Posted by Jim @ 10:51 PM. The daily grind from the Herts/Beds borderlands. London, United Kingdom. View my complete profile.
