After spending a few days in the Loch Lomond area we packed it all back in the rental and headed northeast to the Highlands area near Inverness. But first we had to make a short detour to have lunch at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, which had been highly recommended by a Scottish friend we met in Clermont. There was a take-away shop there as well, so we picked up some smoked salmon and other goodies for happy hour enjoyment. The trail topped out at the summit of Cairn na Leitire where we could just see bits o...

Hello everyone and bon courage, this will be a fairly long post! I had found really reasonable fares to and from Italy on EasyJet and we were scheduled to arrive in Venice early on a Friday. Since our cruise didn’t depart until 6pm on the next day we thought we’d have some time to tour see the city. Wrong! About 10pm on the night before our trip I found an email from EasyJet (aka SleazyJet) informing us that our flight to Venice had been cancelled due to an airport strike. Doh! Trinket shopping in Venice.

In Bruges. I didn’t know there was a movie. By that title until after our return. It’s a pretty dark comedy, but it was definitely “shot” in Bruges. I recognized many of the scenes from our visit. Market Place, In Bruges. Belgian chocolate is good! Bruges is a trading and commerce town. With a long and wealthy history. Originally it was easily accessible from the North Sea and many ships brought their goods in to trade via the canals that thread through the “Venice of the North”. Place Jan van Eyckplein.

Andorra: The Final Frontier. Ok, maybe not the final frontier, but it. Also, as it turns out, it has some pretty good skiing. A call to the rental agency confirmed it. We had to detour around into Spain and enter Andorra from the other direction. Now, there’s nothing new about a detour but this is the first time I’ve ever had to detour through another COUNTRY! Click the thumbnails below for the full size pictures:. The Cornelius family on the slopes. Urchins love to ski! Lots of sun and snow! On Hey Sara...

Vienna & Salzburg. At the end of the last post we were just boarding the train in Saint Anton bound for Vienna. I have to say, Austrian trains are way better than Italian trains. In fact, so far I think they’re my favorite of all the ones we’ve ridden in Europe. On the train to Vienna. Big, comfortable, pre-assigned club seating, quiet cars, and even a hostess who kept coming by to give us chocolates and take food and drink orders! Austrian countryside from the train. Rodeo Drive Austrian style. There we...

No Tea in England? It’s true. We were sitting out at a sidewalk café in the shadow of the London Bridge south pier having a 4 o’clock and Sarah ordered tea. The waitress told her that they stopped serving tea at 2:30pm! How can this be? OK, it was more of a Spanish tapas bar type place but still, this is London people! Big Ben from the Thames River. So Long, Farewell, Adieu. Shortly after we returned from our final driving trip to Provence I put together our For Sale list and we distributed it to the community. The list went on and on. All those European-voltage appliances that we purchased on arrival had to go. Not usable back in the states. The cars. All the light fixtures and ceiling fans we put up. Clothes racks (because in the US they build CLOSETS in the bedrooms! Thiers knives made right across the valley. We kept the movers supplied with cro...
