A Girl Anachronism

Tuesday, July 1, 2014. I'm still a bit behind on my challenge work and dead in the water on all the other sewing I had hoped to accomplish this past month. Job searching and the accompanying anxiety about not having a job yet have been taking up a lot of my time and draining my motivation. Good news finally came today however. I'm going to be a jeweler's apprentice at Jared The Galleria of Jewelry! The reasons I chose this fabric were first and foremost that it is a cotton fabric (already washed even!

A Girl Anachronism: May 2014

http://www.costumesbyophelia.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 28, 2014. I had decided on making a simple project for the challenge knowing my time was limited but it still managed to get away from me in the end. I finally finished my Edwardian princess slip however. I will hopefully get a chance to make an Edwardian corset soon and then I'll have an almost complete set of Edwardian undergarments. 9 Black and White. 5 yards Lace, Buttons, Thread. How Historically Accurate is it? Thursday, May 1, 2014. I'm fairly lucky that the blouse is one of the ver...

A Girl Anachronism: The Politics of Fashion

http://www.costumesbyophelia.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-politics-of-fashion.html

Sunday, June 22, 2014. The Politics of Fashion. I gave up for the time being and decided to search for the charger once everything was finally unloaded. The description of this skirt says it is a heavy twill style that was popular in the 1890's. Though I would have loved to make a flashier version with fringe and other embellishments as became popular amongst rodeo girls later on, I was on a tight budget. The simple version would have to do. Flip the panel over to the row of buttons on the right side and...

A Girl Anachronism: Gibson Girl Blouse

http://www.costumesbyophelia.blogspot.com/2014/05/gibson-girl-blouse.html

Thursday, May 1, 2014. Just managed to sneak one more project into the UFO deadline! Several months ago I started working on a Gibson Girl Blouse using a pattern from Folkwear. I got as far as cutting all the pattern pieces out of the fabric and then got stalled about the time I needed to start making the pintucks and lace insertions. I think I got a bit intimidated by them, and then other projects came along and the blouse got buried and forgotten about. It looks quite nice untucked for modern wear, tho...

A Girl Anachronism: April 2013

http://www.costumesbyophelia.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 29, 2013. Getting Back On Track. I've been a little lazy these past couple weeks. The only sewing I've done at all was a few hours of work on the Harley Quinn costume. I've started to pull out fabric several times these past days, but then I see the clutter obscuring my sewing table and ultimately decide to just watch another episode of Powerpuff Girls. I've at least mustered up enough energy to figure out what to make for the Flora and Fauna challenge in the HSF. Sunday, April 21, 2013.

A Girl Anachronism: Sudden Inspiration

http://www.costumesbyophelia.blogspot.com/2014/03/sudden-inspiration.html

Friday, March 7, 2014. With the bodice challenge coming up in the Historical Sew Fortnightly I decided to get a start on an 1880's dress I had on my costume list for the year. I had only a vague idea of what I wanted cobbled together from a dress in Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 2 and a large quantity of navy-blue pinstriped cotton/poly suiting purchased on a clearance impulse. I found this dress:. It's an 1885 evening gown from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I'm really hoping to finish the dress b...
