County Sutherland Loth & Kildonan

Friday, 26 February 2016. Welcome to Loth and Kildonan pages. On this website Loth is treated as part of Kildonan simply because following boundary changes many years ago the two parishes became quite confusing. Helmsdale was at one time Loth but is now Kildonan is only one example. Many of our Militia lists etc have men in Loth on one and in Kildonan on next. Much easier to show them together. Thank you for your understanding. Burial Grounds in Loth and Kildonan. Families of Loth and Kildonan. Some Helm...

County Sutherland Loth & Kildonan: 1826 Militia Lists

http://cosuthlandk.blogspot.com/2016/02/loth-kildonan-militia-lists.html

Monday, 2 November 2015. 1826 Loth and Kildonan Militia List. Parish of Loth: Militia List, made pursuant to the Directions of sundry Acts for raising a Militia Force in Scotland 1826. Transcribed from original papers by Malcolm Bangor - Jones and adapted for use here by Christine Stokes. As you can see this list was created in Loth parish but as so many of the places named are nowadays part of Kildonan it should be read as both. There is also at least one entry that refers to a place in Clyne parish.

County Sutherland Lairg

Tuesday, 23 February 2016. The view from the railway, nearer the station, is really grand. In the foreground we have the river Shin, with the woods and policies of Achany and Gruids. Behind these, and stretching from the south in a line to the north-east, we have the mountains of Ross, and of the west and north of Sutherland rising, pile upon pile, in towering splendour'.
