Cure For Boredom: Summer Poem
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2011/05/summer-poem.html
Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Assuming poetry is not a lost art amongst my fellow boredom-crushers, here is one of my favourites. Besides, I'm in a poetic, writing kind of mood. A something in a summer’s Day. As slow her flambeaux burn away. A something in a summer’s noon —. A depth — an Azure — a perfume —. And still within a summer’s night. A something so transporting bright. I clap my hands to see —. Then veil my too inspecting face. Lets such a subtle — shimmering grace. Flutter too far for me —. Enjoying t...

Cure For Boredom: Thanksgiving Post
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2010/10/thanksgiving-post.html
Sunday, October 10, 2010. It's Thanksgiving in these parts, and you can tell by the snow outside (it IS mid-October in the Yukon, after all), the turkey cooking instructions across my counter top, and the longer hugs I give Rich saying, "thanks for loving me, babe" (followed by his confused squirming away going to eat a sandwich). When prompted to think of the things for which I am thankful, the effort is quite minimal. Every day before dozing off to sleep I try and think of all the things I'm thankf...

Cure For Boredom: Go Ahead and Lose It
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2015/07/go-ahead-and-lose-it.html
Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Go Ahead and Lose It. She said it was not just okay, but beneficial, to lose it once in awhile in front of your kids. Huh Writing this out, it all sounds so simple. I can see, though, how clear the connection is between the behaviour and words I model and my girls' reactions. They reflect back to me what they see. Sometimes that means I hear Abby yell, "Goddammit! Wednesday, March 30, 2016 1:19:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). This blog was started as a way to pass time...

Cure For Boredom: Gratitude Post
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2009/10/gratitude-post.html
Monday, October 12, 2009. Oprah's always been going on and on about the importance of keeping a Gratitude Journal, were everyday, you're supposed to write down five things for which you are grateful. Then there was all that hype about The Secret. It won't rain, just put it out there,". Your gravy will turn out fine, just put it out there,". Winter will never last eight months in the Yukon, just put it out there.". I am thankful for my health because I know that one illness or condition could drastically ...

Cure For Boredom: Simplicity
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2011/05/simplicity.html
Monday, May 16, 2011. How can one go into the woods and not call up Thoreau quotes to try and better illustrate the magic one feels? It's a magic that permeates souls quietly, nevertheless replacing the makeup that was there before. It calls one to find joy in building, setting and stoking a fire. Joy in a simple task, one that is out of the ordinary. I choose to fill it simply:. Warm cups of Ovaltine. Like my Dad used to make me. Saying yes when it makes me happy and no when it won't. Buying groceries a...

Cure For Boredom: Road Trip
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2015/07/road-trip.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Oh, hey geese. I don't remember there being any tears, any fights, any injuries or any whining. I do, however, remember Abby's sweet invitations to come swim with her (that I couldn't possibly pass up), watching Hailey do headstands for crowds of adoring tourists along the boardwalk, Summer's joy at chasing seagulls and Robin's sweet cuddles under the towel, drying off after a cold dip. Cure For Boredom: Obligatory Autumn Photo Post
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2013/10/obligatory-autumn-photo-post.html
Wednesday, October 2, 2013. Obligatory Autumn Photo Post. I am really having fun learning to take and edit pictures. I'm over being intimidated by terms like 'aperture' and learning to adjust the white balance. I like noticing when the light is optimal for photos at different points in my day. I stop to grab my camera, snap off a few pictures and see how they turn out. I like that I can always be learning more. Thus, I present, today's obligatory autumn pictures. Cool lines and light contrast. Unrelated;...

Cure For Boredom: Summer's Second
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2015/07/summers-second.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Last night, as I hung balloons and set out cards, I remembered a phone call I had meant to make. I dialed the number, asked for Emilie, and waited. I was kept on hold for a while, so I continued hanging the birthday banner and filling loot bags until she picked up. You can stop pushing now, okay, no, stop. Oh! This is happening," she said. "Here she is! Emilie told me she remembered our family, and told our story often. It's not every day that a nurse gets to deliver a baby....

Cure For Boredom: Word Porn
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2011/05/word-porn.html
Wednesday, May 18, 2011. My rating: 5 of 5 stars. In the 1960s, a woman sat to write a book that changed the literary world. It gave a voice to the young, black girl. It gave words to the struggle to find right in an era of racism. It gave a spotlight to a supremely talented writer who went on to pen books that will serve as social commentaries of history during her years. Toni Morrison's book The Bluest Eye. Later won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. I read The Bluest Eye. In three days, flat.

Cure For Boredom: In the Garden
http://www.cureforboredomiscuriosity.com/2015/07/in-garden.html
Monday, July 13, 2015. I have centred my morning ritual around watering the plants. I love the slow process and checking in to see how my ripening vegetables are coming along. This week, I have delighted in gathering blueberries off my mother's day bush to sprinkle on our cereal. The strawberries are done, the tomatoes are just beginning to turn colour, and the jury's still out on the broccoli after a caterpillar infestation. I have learned what I know so far from trial and error, Mother Earth Living.
