Country Garden Snippets

Wednesday, July 1, 2015. I can think of so many things I’d like to do “when I grow up”. I would love to have a violet farm. Pink ones and purple ones. How sweet it would be to pick posies of violets to take to elderly ladies in a nursing home. They miss their gardens and their flowers. How sad it must be to live in a sterile environment with no flowers after living long years enjoying tending gardens and picking fresh flowers for their homes. Hand stitching is so soothing. Stitching is a quiet achievement.

Country Garden Snippets: taking time to smell the ... STOCKS!

http://www.countrygardensnippets.blogspot.com/2014/08/taking-time-to-smell-stocks.html

Monday, August 25, 2014. Taking time to smell the . STOCKS! I am not a perfectionist. That’s an advantage in a garden this size. I’d go nuts if I thought I had to have it all “just so”. Being in control is the antithesis of gardening ( and farming ) anyway isn’t it? I am a firm believer in making the best of what you’ve got, right where you’re at. So, I launched into my dream plan …. without a plan, really. So this was my fourth year of trowel – err – trial and error. I tenderly tucked them in, watered, ...

Country Garden Snippets: November 2012

http://www.countrygardensnippets.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 27, 2012. A sweet little something. Something is better than nothing. And rather than apologise for not writing for aaaaaages, I'll just say hi and it's good to be back. You know the saying "if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all"? I have felt a bit sad that I have been so "blah" about everything I normally delight in and that I haven't even wanted to BE in the garden, let alone be gardening in the garden. Every summer I vow I'll pin them up to stop the poor thin...

Country Garden Snippets: Press the pause button

http://www.countrygardensnippets.blogspot.com/2015/05/press-pause-button.html

Sunday, May 24, 2015. Press the pause button. I am developing an aversion to words like. Hurry, rush, scurry, fast. Preferring instead – ponder, slow and contemplate. It has been a semi-colon. Kind of an afternoon. A pause to breathe deep and catch my breath after a busy 'out and about" week. Autumn verges on the cold snap of winter. The last of the roses bloom giving bursts of colour and subtle fragrance against the backdrop of barren branches. Darker and damp after a shower of rain. Stop Sit. Still.

Country Garden Snippets: stitching snippets

http://www.countrygardensnippets.blogspot.com/2015/07/stitching-snippets.html

Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Colourful stitching gives a zing today. Working with aqua, bright orange, cheery yellow and hot pink brightens my wintery afternoon. Hand stitching is so soothing. When my mind feels muddled and I don’t “feel” creative, I go through the motions of hand embroidery – steadily following the pattern without thinking . The rhythmic action allows me to ponder. Stitching is a quiet achievement. It is good to be. Productive when I don’t feel. Even the snippety scraps are pretty!

Country Garden Snippets: March 2012

http://www.countrygardensnippets.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 6, 2012. The sunny days have been few and far between this summer. Cherry tomatoes have popped up everywhere. Absolutely everywhere. I haven't the heart to pluck out these healthy plants - God does the best job when plants self sow. I don't seem to have much success when I plant seeds. And the best thing about these little beauties is they don't need spraying for fruit fly. We've used them a lot in cooking and even made a batch of tomato sauce. I'm quite happy to share with the wildlife.
