Cousin Monica's Words: February 2011
http://mjwitzig.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 12, 2011. Instead and kiss her puppy-dog head. She seemed happy to shift herself under my left arm and into the corners of my front. Fifteen minutes later, I had her snout in my face. She crawled out from under the covers and leapt about the bed. I insisted that the bed is for sleep and not for play, but it was hard to resist when she presented her belly to me for a rub. Colorado for you, I guess—and exactly what I wanted. Cousin Monica's Words: November 2011
http://mjwitzig.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 10, 2011. On the Penn State scandal, part II. Most of what I copyedit is science and sports. One of those topics would have had me sobbing in a newsroom last night. Why didn't the BOT let Joe Paterno finish the year as coach? Is Mike McQueary still employed by Penn State? Is Tim Curley still employed by Penn State? Can you please confirm that Gary Schultz retired from his temporary post on Sunday, November 6, 2011? Insert can of worms about Ray Gricar here.]. WTF happened to Ray Gricar?

Cousin Monica's Words: October 2011
http://mjwitzig.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 14, 2011. On civil disobedience and birth order. Everyone knows by now about the Occupy [Insert city here] movements. We have one in Denver, a mere two blocks from my and Aaron's apartment. Will we simply leave if we are asked? What happens to the dog if we get arrested? On top of being a relatively cautious (in the legal and professional senses) kid of an attorney, I'm not very good at protesting. On my way home, I noticed droves of policemen (in full riot gear) leaving the area, too....

Cousin Monica's Words: June 2011
http://mjwitzig.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 13, 2011. In which I attempt to cope by reading about cuprate superconductors. Many people block out the exact date of traumatic events, can't tell you the day someone close to them died. I have the opposite problem. I remember the date. I remember the time. I remember the way I stayed up for hours wailing, pleading with any deity willing to listen—and how everyone was instructed to keep it from me until my father drove the hundred miles to see me the next day. Life is good," Grandpa said.

Cousin Monica's Words: On leaving Denver
http://mjwitzig.blogspot.com/2012/06/on-leaving-denver.html
Monday, June 25, 2012. It's not hard to be sentimental about the place that gave me everything —. For the last three years, and if that sounds dramatic, it's because it is. Now, I'm not leaving to move back to Pennsylvania, and I'm not leaving because I've been run out of town (although what a story that'd make for the Wild West). I have wonderful reasons to be peacing out of the Front Range. And so we're going. Change doesn't have to be a bad thing. My beagle will have much more room to play, inside and...

Cousin Monica's Words: August 2012
http://mjwitzig.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 20, 2012. On the legal field. I jumped into the legal field when I was 17: Dad's office needed gopher work, and I needed money. I recognize that most 17-year-olds worked at Starbucks or the pool (and my own sisters still tease me over "working for Daddy"), but the hours were consistent, I wasn't flipping burgers, and I earned every penny of that $6.50 an hour. Lest working for Daddy. The jargon and formalities in legal writing can be rough on the eyes and the brain, frankly, but the smoke ...

Cousin Monica's Words: April 2011
http://mjwitzig.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 3, 2011. On homophones and homonyms, "Cousin Monica's Words". There is a game I play with my niece Madeline. She calls it "Cousin Monica's Words.". Madeline and her younger sister Ava are my cousin Heather's children. I have about 20 years on them, so for ease of introductions they are always "my nieces," but the official title the two of them have given me is Cousin Monica.). We have been talking about homophones and homonyms. Madeline laughs that "so silly! The animal) and bear. Is to giv...
