Curiouser & Curiouser: April 2013

http://www.countrynotthestate.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 26, 2013. Things I’ve come to know and hate/love sheerly due to their consistency and persistence. I live in a mixed emotional state here if that wasn’t obvious already:. My grandmother is still convinced I don’t eat nearly enough food, asking herself or anyone who will listen in a melancholy tone, ‘why doesn’t she eat more, she only ate this and this.’. Curiouser & Curiouser: November 2012

http://www.countrynotthestate.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 16, 2012. Just waiting for our ride to the church. You could hear the bridal party approaching from a-ways away because, if you by chance ever visit Georgia, you are very likely to hear horns blasting constantly as 3 to 10 cars race down the street and that you’ll know is a wedding party. The bride and groom then walked into the church, up to the front section while the priest? The feast at the start. An awesome eggplant dish that I love here. Smiling in photos - still not big here.

Curiouser & Curiouser: Spring is in the air...and I cursed out some old Georgian women

http://www.countrynotthestate.blogspot.com/2013/03/spring-is-in-airand-i-cursed-out-some.html

Friday, March 22, 2013. Spring is in the air.and I cursed out some old Georgian women. So I’ve reached a new low point here in Georgia - well not really, but what else can you call cursing out a bunch of old Georgian women on the marshutka? Is it not a given that someone who travels independently halfway around the world and lives in a country of a different culture and language is probably relatively independent and capable of handling themselves to a certain degree? Curiouser & Curiouser: December 2012

http://www.countrynotthestate.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 1, 2012. Two Tbilisi Trips To Treasure. Here's what I meant to post the last time I was in Tbilisi, but apparently it never got around to sending through. Good news is now I can actually post pictures from that weekend as well:. We've discovered an awesome bar here that plays great music and feels more like the Charleston/Folly hippy bar scene I've grown accustomed to, with the greatest hot chocolate in the world. Max and I discovered a random waterfall right in downtown Tbilisi next t...

July | 2014 | The Georgian Chronicles: Part III

https://sanchezjohnson.wordpress.com/2014/07

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Monthly Archives: July 2014. After having pleasant weather for the weekend, July came back with a vengeance. I don’t know how hot it was but trust me, it was hot. I started packing soon after waking up. It was warm but still bearable. By 1 o’clock, I was in my underwear glistening with sweat. Ugh I asked was she crazy. Why not wait until the sun went down? The education system works ...

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Monthly Archives: December 2014. As this is the last post about my life in Georgia, let me summarize as best I can:. Georgia’s culture poses a double-edged sword for them. It holds them back in making progress in such areas like gender equality and gay rights. The unequal privilege that men enjoy in Georgia is staggering to witness. It’s so ingrained in the culture it has...On the ot...

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Mac ‘n Cheese. We went to the supermarket called Goodwill. It usually has the most variety of things one needs to cook. I knew I wanted to cook macaroni and cheese. My other friends traditionally did not have mac ‘n cheese on Thanksgiving. Which is beyond my understanding and comprehension. No mac ‘n cheese on Thanksgiving? Well, I was going to fix that. Being away from home at such ...

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. I was in a bookstore flipping through a photo book of Georgia looking for last minute purchases before leaving Georgia when I saw a picture of an amazing looking fortress perched on a mountainside. I decided then and there that this place would be my last destination. I spoke to Zura about it and he said, Oh yeah, Ksani. I was there yesterday. What! He asked if I was Indian Whatever.

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Monthly Archives: September 2014. Tbilisi Public School #62. So I final was able to go to school! I got a call one morning saying, Be ready in 15-20 minutes! Nelly, another TLG representative is coming to take you to your school! When she jumped out of the van, I assumed we were there. We exchanged numbers, and then they showed me around the school. As said before, I didn’t hav...

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. We Interrupt This Broadcast. This has been a bumpy 90 days. Ups and downs mentally about my (our) ability to stay and teach in this country because of the new visa regulations. When push came to shove, I decided to jump ship from TLG and therefore Georgia while I still had some leverage over my own future. Which means I will not be returning to Georgia after Christmas. The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Jess: The First And The Last. It seems like ages ago that I first came to Georgia. I will forever love and remember my crew from that time, though. They are still like my brothers and sisters. One of them, Jess, decided to return to celebrate Christmas with her host family. Jess is from Australia, which proves she made an effort to get back here. I guess you’d say. You are commenting...
