the red shed: Ice
http://redsheddublin.blogspot.com/2015/01/ice.html
Growing food in north dublin. Thursday, January 1, 2015. I did get some work done; the three smallest beds weeded and cleared, old rhubarb leaves and asparagus fronds chucked on the compost mountain and the blueberry bushes pruned of crossing and leggy branches. More to do but there is no real rush - a good few weeks of winter lie ahead before the manic spring rush begins again. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. the red shed: January 2014
http://redsheddublin.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Growing food in north dublin. Friday, January 31, 2014. I have a cold, and I. M blaming it on the weather. Not because of the weather itself, but because it has conspired to keep me from the allotment. I did a quick U-turn and headed out to the plot, along the recently-flooded sea road over bumps of seaweed and debris. The tides are very high at the moment and Dublin has tidal flood warnings in place all week. Still, its not all doom and gloom. It. S bright now until. A flying visit after work, if I leav...
the red shed: April 2014
http://redsheddublin.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Growing food in north dublin. Friday, April 18, 2014. Great Friday would be more accurate - a peach of a day, with clear blue skies, a gentle breeze and warm sunshine. My sister and I had brunch in the back yard for the first time - I gave it a spring clean earlier in the week so it's now a civilised place to sit once more. Pots in the back yard. Tulips and daffodils from the allotment. Out then to Donabate, where everyone was out and about, working on their plots, digging and raking and sowing like mad.
the red shed: Blink.
http://redsheddublin.blogspot.com/2015/03/blink.html
Growing food in north dublin. Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Every time I visit, something has moved on - back in late January it was the first snowdrop emerging from the thicket, last weekend it was tulips my parents brought home from Amsterdam last autumn finally showing their faces above ground. In the midst of all this new growth - some death to balance it out. Next week is St Patrick's Day - time to truly announce the start of the new season with the ceremonial planting of my early spuds. Brassicas, Sun...
the red shed: July 2014
http://redsheddublin.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Growing food in north dublin. Friday, July 25, 2014. July please, I'm on my knees, the smell of your fresh cut grass. A month has floated by since my last post, in a haze of sun and hoovering and coding and heat and claustrophobic offices and movies and torrential downpours and illustrator icons and forked lightning on the motorway and broken fridge-freezers. July has been a brilliant, dramatic, tiring, life-changing month. The other evening, I escaped work and brought a pan, some rashers and bread out t...
the red shed: June 2014
http://redsheddublin.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Growing food in north dublin. Sunday, June 22, 2014. Its been a weekend of toasting in the back yard, so here's a few photos of my flowers in pots to conclude this post. Sunday, June 15, 2014. The early spuds 4 days ago, looking perfect. After all that unexpected trauma, I had to race around picking things and watering things, and I was knackered and starving by the time I headed home for lunch at three. I wonder what little surprises will be waiting for me on my next visit. Wednesday, June 11, 2014.
the red shed: As the year draws to a close.
http://redsheddublin.blogspot.com/2014/12/as-year-draws-to-close.html
Growing food in north dublin. Saturday, December 27, 2014. As the year draws to a close. The year is nearly spent and it has been many months since I posted. It has been a mad, frenetic few months of assignments, new tasks at work, the new house, dealing with builders and lists and endless money spent. There have been precious few hours for growing, or planning or sitting for five minutes and thinking. So, what of the allotment? The work I had done on the house included removing the top storey of an exte...
