Once Upon A Spatula. Cooking and creating for every day life. Have you met Shirley? June 13, 2013. There is nothing better than sitting around a table with your girlfriends and having the chance to chat, gossip or just be together. When my friends and I get together my face usually ends up being sore the next day because we spent the whole evening laughing. Genuine laughter with your friends honestly does something good for your soul! Two Tablespoons of Rose’s Grenadine. One can of Sprite or 7-UP. Pour t...

Once Upon A Spatula. Cooking and creating for every day life. My green thumb is showing. June 13, 2013. This is my favorite time of the year! Soon after my green thumb inspiration, I visited a local greenhouse to purchase tomato and green pepper plants. My first thought after purchasing the plants and seeing how small and fragile they were was “these things are doomed! If you have never tried growing peppers, tomatoes or any other type of produce on your own…I highly recommend it! Enter your comment here.

Once Upon A Spatula. Cooking and creating for every day life. August 12, 2013. It has been far too long since I wrote on this blog. However, I do have some great pictures to share of the veggies that have come from the Hyland household. Here is a picture of some of the tomatoes and green peppers I picked a few days ago! It has been a lot of fun cooking with my own produce and not having to run to the grocery store because I forgot a veggie I needed for a recipe. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

My green peppers are growing like crazy since we have finally had some hot weather these last few days! It is amazing what a difference a few days of sunshine can do. Remember when they were just this big on June 13? I am really looking forward to making fajitas with my home grown peppers, jalapeños and tomatoes that are on the way! Easy recipes that almost certainly work. Smartie Cookies. Just how cool are they? They taste amazing, and they look amazing. Whoever first thought of this idea is a culinary genius. I recently gave these to a friend for her birthday, and she said ‘OMG! 8217;, presumably in a good way… But I love making them. 1 tsp baking powder. 200g butter, softened. 1 egg, beaten. 2 – 3 tubes of smarties (I used two tubes, and SOMEONE ate the other *looks innocent*). Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4/180 C/ 160 C fan.
