Saturday, December 22, 2012. Sewing Buttons in the Car. That's me, I'm sewing on the buttons in the car! This is typical of me at Christmas, there's always one or two last minute sewing projects. Only, these shirts were begun two weeks ago! I still can't believe that I actually finished (except for the buttons) the two shirts for my boys. Here's as few pics of them so far. (I hope they're not upside down, cause it looks like this blogger app on my smart phone has flipped them! Links to this post. Sew the...

Monday, January 28, 2013. Jalie 2111 – Shirts for the Boys. Early in December I got the idea to sew my boys flannel shirts, since they both LOVE the second-hand ones I found at the thrift store. It was funny to see them hug themselves once they got over the collar! And then they would wear them for several days in a row. That’s a good sign! So big brother chose for him. Hunky dory, they were both happy? Amenable with the fabrics. And so, here they are, for your viewing pleasure! And don’t get me st...

Monday, June 11, 2012. Summer break is finally here! Life has been pretty busy around here with all last week being Columbia Style week and now I am in education courses for two weeks :(, but I'll still have some time for sewing and of course designing and styling! Columbia Style Week - Saturday Runway Show. Lauren Firr - 6/11/2011 photoshoot. Slice dress - inspired by Lanvin 2011. Being submerged in fashion all last week, got me wanting TONS of new clothes and shoes! I just had to re-create this look.

Saturday, June 1, 2013. A Running Belt (with tutorial). The day before Ottawa Race weekend (last week) my husband and I went to pick up our kits (me the 5K and he the marathon). While we were there we checked out the booths at the Expo, and this is where I saw the FlipBelt. Running belt. It is cool! After looking at one for a bit, I wondered if I could make this. I also found some dark grey, sturdy, stretchy stuff (nylon? I used the more matte side. The contrast piping is just 1 inch strips cut to the sa...

Friday, November 7, 2014. The Pincushion for Everything. I’ve actually been working on finishing things this fall. Last month was the Burda jacket, and this week it was the Weighted Pincushion Organizer. From Elizabeth Hartman for Sew, Mama, Sew! Which I started nearly 2 years ago. It’s a cute design and so useful. And it’s no longer a UFO! The fabric is the same as what I used to make my knitting bucket bag. That I made last year, so lovely to sew this stuff! Wednesday, January 29, 2014. A Sewing Room Update. Sewing for others has it’s benefits, namely being paid for it! And with the money I earned from the chair and ottoman covers and some other alterations back in September, I immediately put it back in the sewing room, which was really getting out of hand. The main thing I did was replace the fabric storage with the ever popular EXPEDIT shelving from IKEA. I’ve lost count of how many other sewintists have these shelves! Which is great for that! And just fo...

escapades in sewing: April 2013

Sunday, April 21, 2013. Day-to-Night Top in Red. This pattern is Maria Denmark’s. Day-to-Night top. Lovely, quick top, what’s not to like! Also, uses hardly any fabric. It’s hard to take a nice shot with a timer beeping! I get all awkward.). The fabric is leftover from my Pavlova top. And still have large bits left. This fabric is lovely to sew with, unbelievably, for a jersey. I cut the top according to my bust/waist/hip measurements, so graded between sizes. It really is bang on! The lower back has exc...
