Rollie Rose is the Executive-Director of the B.C. Press Council and a former Mayor of Ladysmith. He spent 35 years in the newspaper industry as a reporter and editor at the Vancouver Sun and Province and at community newspapers in Salmon Arm, Campbell River and Port Alberni. He became a newspaper owner in 1974 when he purchased the Ladysmith Chronicle and Island Publishers Ltd. The Cowichan Foundation was the brainchild of Duncan lawyer Mike Coleman, a leading Cowichan citizen for the past 40 years.

We have established 6 ‘memorial’ scholarships/bursaries at Vancouver Island University as part of our annual contribution to help post-secondary students from the Cowichan Valley. Each is in the amount of $1000. The Rollie Rose Award. His longtime friend Mike Coleman says, Rollie may be tiny, but he has an out-sized sense of humour.
