Cowmire Hall has a boathouse, with a day-room above the dock, in a lovely peaceful bay on the west side of Windermere, near Lakeside. There is a jetty, and a slipway for launching dinghies, as well as a picnic table and barbecue. Bothy guests may use the boathouse (though not always exclusively), and a rowing-boat, for a small extra charge; or you may bring your own canoe or sailing dinghy. Starting in Deepdale competitors fanned out through Grisedale and up and over Helvellyn, before dropping down towards the top end of Thirlmere for the overnight camp.
