A short mission trip involving a light construction/renovation project. Around Philippi, West Virginia. Evening of Friday, May 13. Mercer County Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Activities of First Presybterian Church of Sharon, PA. First Presbyterian Church has been participating in the Contructores Para Cristo (Builders for Christ) mission in Piedras Negras, Mexico for more than 20 years. During one week in the summer, our group meets a Mexican family and helps them build a simple, sturdy house out of cement block and stucco. CPC also runs a Children’s Center and veterinary clinic. The AfterSchool@1st program started in the fall of 2007 with 14 students from the 5th and 6th grades at Case Avenue Elementary School (Sharon City School District). Today, the program has about 20 children, including some 7th graders who have returned to peer mentor the new 5th and 6th graders!
